Hiring new grads in ICU Phoenix

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hello!

I am a new grad hoping to land a job in an ICU. Are certain hospitals in Phoenix more/less likely to hire new grads into this setting? Are there any tips to help a new grad secure a position in critical care? I have my mind made up to work in that setting, and will only be applying to these units so any insight to the valley would be awesome!!

Specializes in Neuro, Telemetry.

If that's all you will be applying for, good luck and expect to be unemployed for quite some time. The vast majority of ICU positions posted will be for experienced nurses only. Mayo had an ICU new grad residency open twice a year, but it requires previous critical care experience as a tech/CNA. The other hospitals will have ICU positions open but most of the time internal employees get them first or people with experience de.

Not it saying it's impossible, but your more realistic approach should be to apply to other payout ions as well and get working. If you don't get ICU, work for a year and then apply into a critical care setting.

Banner Desert medical center (where I work) is amping up for trauma status and is hiring like crazy in the ER or ICU, I work in the ER, good luck.

I just graduated in August with my ADN and was hired into the PCU at Banner Del Webb last week. I applied to their new grad program, was hired on the spot, and was actually able to pick which hospital and unit I wanted, so going that route may work for you.

Thanks for the honest feedback, I may be executing my backup plan sooner rather than later!

Hello Brittany928!! When does your orientation begin? I was also hired for Banners new grad program í ½í¸…â˜ºï¸

Hi there! I start my orientation on 10/17. I'm super nervous, but pretty excited. What hospital are you going to be at?

How exiting! I am starting on the 31st in M/S at Boswell. But i have a friend that will start on the 17 at Del Webb ☺️

What do you think of the PCU? I also want to start out in ICU, but I know many places require experience so I want to look into PCU and intermediate care/step down. Do you know if Banner hires new grads?

My mother in law just got hired as a new grad onto the PCU at Boswell. She starts 10/31.
