  1. Its hard to offer advice when I, myself am unsure of where I should go.. but if you have the inkling to try OR, then try OR.. the beauty of being a nurse if you have the freedom to move around and find where you fit.. best of luck
  2. I dont know thats why Im confused! I am going try PRN ED to see if it was just the ED facility I didn't like .. hmm
  3. Always wanted to be an ER RN since before becoming a RN. Did a year in med surg and finals got my ER position. Not sure if it was my specific ER but I didn't love it did it for 3 years.. I loved the intensity, the codes, traumas etc.. but I wanted more critical care. In the back of my head I always thought "Maybe L&D" So when I moved I got a job in LDRP.. I am an adrenaline junkie but I'm not sure if I fit in L&D.. My question is.. Is L&D all or nothing? It seems people know from day 1 "I want to be an L&D nurse" and then they immediately love it and want to stay forever. is that the case or is it normal to not like it at first? I have been doing LDRP for over a year now (Labor side 7 months) and Im craving ER again.. wondering what I should do or if anyone has ever felt this way I worry that if I go back to ER I might regret it..
  4. Hello Oregon Nurses! I've been an ER nurse for 2.5 years, a nurse 3.5 years total and I'm looking to work in a level one trauma in Portland coming from PHX AZ, I know of OHSU and Legacy Emmanuel.. Looking for advice as to which hospital system is preferred, and neighborhood recommendations. Also, how is the nursing market for ER nurses/ experienced nurses? And if I'm moving May 2017, when should I begin applying?? Thank you!

  8. Absolutely let her study with you... you really never know what someone is going through in their lives that cause them to do what they do.. be compassionate and take her in... especially if you want to be future nurses, practice now! On the other hand if she isn't contributing at all then thats a different story.... I was struggling in critical care nursing and I went to all the A students and begged to study with them, they helped me focus and I got better... now I'm a kick ass ER nurse. Compassion first.. always.
  9. Hello!! I'm 23 and graduated with my BSN in 2013, and I always dreamed of being an ED nurse. I spent a year on the Ortho-Trauma floor and was thrilled to accept a position in the ED at a new hospital. I wanted the fast paced, critical care aspect, but also wanted to be able to comfort and care for patients. I am 3 months in and unfortunantly I feel like a med/surg/tele nurse with a revolving door. I should have known in the ED I wouldn't have much of an opportunity to grow a bond with my patients, but I didn't know how much of an impact it would have on me. The critical patients are interesting, and I am able to handle the stress but I can feel this isn't my specialty and its a tough realization. One aspect that was surprising to me was the OB patients, whether laboring or just finding out they were pregnant, I was enthralled. I loved my OB clinicals but I was so focused on ED that I didn't give it a second thought. With my pregnant patients I am either jumping in excitement with them, or holding their hand when they found out they had a miscarriage... Any time we have a laboring patient we take to L&D, I desperately want to stay with her and be involved with the whole process, it just feels right. I work in a hospital with an amazing L&D unit, and there are positions open, but I don't want to leave ED after being there just 3 months. I've started reading books and freshening my skills on infant care and labor and delivery in general... any advice? Should I stay a year? 6 months? Thank you :)
  10. I am overloaded with exams and reports and a part time job, and the only nurse I know lives 45 minutes away and can't find her number for the life of me. I have a huge Anat 2 exam tomorrow and didn't have time to find a nurse. I thought this site would have good quality nurses to help me with my paper, I didn't expect to be "spoonfed"
  11. I am looking for actual nursing stories... like on the job
  12. These are the types of moral conflicts, If you could take five minutes of your time and answer the 5 questions below it would GREATLY help me write my paper in Nursing Ethics class! moral uncertainty-Sense a moral problem exists but unsure what values or principles apply or what the problem is. moral dilemma-State in which two or more values or principles are applicable but support mutually exclusive courses of action. moral distress -State in which one is clear as to the right choice but external constraints make one unable to act in accord with that choice. moral outrage-Situation in which another person engages in an action the nurse believes to be morally wrong. (The nurse is not involved in the situation) 2.Please describe an ethical conflict situation in nursing practice that you have encountered. 3.How did you deal with that ethical conflict?how it was resolved? and what personal values were involved? 4. Were you satisfied with how the ethical conflict was resolved? 5. Did you refer to the Code of Ethics for Nurses in dealing with the conflict?
