Preparing for School
Thanks give em zzzs! It is a college level class that I'm thinking of taking. It's with UNE online, where you can take whatever you want and not have to meet specific requirements, only recommended that you take certain ones before others. I've never taken a formal chemistry class so that's why I'm thinking of starting at the bottom and then taking O. Chem and hopefully biochem, despite the fact I have my BSN. I'm just afraid of not doing well in the more advanced Chem classes cause I don't understand the basic concepts like in general chem. It's hard, I so want to just take O. Chem amd biochem and then be done with it so I can focus on my GRE. It's hard to have patience! Thanks again!

Preparing for School
Thanks for your advice. I think I'm going to take a general chemistry and then O. Chem. I may take biochem as well. I just want to be prepared for CRNA school as much as I can. It's a long way off and I still have so much to do before I even apply. (GRE, Chem classes, getting interviewed, etc). I really want to be a CRNA and get accepted into the program! Thanks!!!

Preparing for School
Hello all you awesome CRNAs! I need some advice from you. So I will be applying to the VA CRNA program hopefully next year. I am deficient in chemistry. As in I've never taken a formal chemistry class. I contacted the CRNA program director and she suggested UNE and their biochemistry class. So I'm thinking that I need to take general chemistry just so I have a good, solid foundation and then take organic chemistry. I'm not sure if I'll have time to take biochemistry, although I believe it's recommended to take organic chemistry 2 before biochemistry. I have a BSN and I ha e been a ICU RN for over 1 year now. So here's my question. How's my plan sound? I really want to set myself up for success in the CRNA program and I want to have a solid foundation since I was told many RNs have had a hard time with the biochemistry in the program in the past. I hesitate on taking the biochemistry test outright since it may be a bt advanced for me. I'm trying to finish this and take the GRE so I can apply to the program next year, but I'm wondering if I'll get this all done in time for the deadline of July next year. I appreciate any insight any of you have! Thanks very much!!

VA hiring questions
That's awesome! Congratulations on your new job. I'm so excited for you! I'm glad that your process went so quickly, I'm hoping that's the way mine is going as well. Guess I'll see after I get the physical and Fingerprints dine this week. I admit I'm anxious about it but trying to chill out. Did they contact all of your references? Did you have to kinda stay on top of anything to expedite things? I don't wanna be annoying, but I don't want to sit and twiddle my fingers. Not my style . Thanks for your input and congratulations again on your new job at the VA!

VA hiring questions
Right?!?!? Any idea why? I'm not bragging, especially to those who had to wait months and months. Waiting is so stressful. I'm just not sure why it seems to be going so fast for me. I'm not sure if they've received my transcripts or any results from my background check, etc. So maybe it's a hurry up and wait sort of situation. I dunno. It kinda concerns me but at the same time I'm grateful too.

VA hiring questions
Hello all! I applied to the VA in seattle and things are moving along faster than I anticipated. I was interviewed on Sept 12th, received a tenitive offer on Sept 14th, completed Vetpro and eQip the following week. I received a salary offer on Sept 27th and now have a my fingerprint and physical appt scheduled on Oct 7th. I was surprised to receive a salary offer so early in the process. I felt that it was generous. I got a nurse 1 level 3 step 9. I have my BSN with 4 years experience including 1 year ICU experience. The position is for ICU as well. Is this odd I got a salary offer so quickly? I live out of state so I was surprised to have even gotten a call at all as I am sure Seattle has plenty of amazing and qualified nurses applying. I've always wanted to live in Washington and work in the VA, so this is a double awesome sauce for me. If anyone has any insight, please comment! I've read lots of threads on here about the hiring process but was looking for some updated info. Thanks a bunch ladies and gents!

VA Hospital hiring process questions
Update!!!! So I had my phone interview today. I think it went well, despite my nervousness. I mean, my voice was shaking! (Can you tell I want this job?) So at the end of the interview, they asked to speak to my references and to notify my work that I applied to the Va if I hadn't already. I'm thinking that's a good sign that they want to talk to my references!!!! Trying not to get too excited, the the good thing is, they said they will decide by the end of the week. I won't have to suffer too long with the waiting! Been a while since I had butterflies over a job like this. Oh I hope I get it!!

VA Hospital hiring process questions
Thank you! Good to know information. Sounds like they will give me enough time then. Guess they'll habe a field day with me, cause it took me 8 months to find a nursing job. Stupid recession. That's ok though, I'm here now, right! I'm really hoping and praying the interview goes well. It's been a while since I've applied for a government job and I was so shocked they wanted to interview me. It's not a confidence issue. I live in AZ so I assumed I'd be wrote off cause I lived far away but maybe they'll give me a chance! How did you're phone interview go? I'm so nervous about it! I literally lol'ed at the adopting kids part! Thanks so much for your input. I won't hold my breathe, as you say, but I'll be positive and hopeful. Thank you!!

I really dislike my co-worker
Yuck! What a horrible predicament you are kinda in. Can you ignore her? Do you really like your job and wanna fight for it? Is she worth the energy to do all the things you want? Report her as a united front? Of she doesn't have much sway on your lofe.or your work then I say ignore her and go about your business. Things will catch up to her one way or another. Of it really bothers you and this isn't your favorite job, thenaybe go somewhere else, but they could have a potential HER on their payroll too. Just take a breather and see how you feel in like a week. I don't blame you for being angry for the bullying part. I'd be mad as heck too!! Ask yourself, why did she say that? I'm not accusing you of bullying at all, but when people accusearch me of things, I try to see there point of view. No matter how ridiculous it is. Keep your head up and keep in, keeping on!!! Keep us updated!

Your experience in nursing school
My class in RN school had developed this saying: "It is what it is." RN school stole my life away for 2 years but I passed with flying colors. I dedicated alot of my time to studying and I wanted to understand the material through and through. It taught me how to think like a nurse thus the saying, and also things changed constantly so you had to be flexible, thus the saying. It's good practice for when you get into your career field. Once you get your first job and feel comfortable, things kinda calm down. They did for me anyway. It's a rough school, but it's worth it, I promise you that.

VA Hospital hiring process questions
Hello all! I can not believe it but I have an interview for a VA Hospital in Seattle this coming Monday. I'm literally studying for it. My question is, this is an out of state job. I live in AZ and was wondering of they give you ample time to move once they've decided to hire you? It's a RN job of that makes any difference. I was actually quite shocked they wanted to phone interview me in the first place. I have read that this can be a tedious process but that does not deter me. I really wanna move to Washington State and be apart of the Va Hospitals and I am just worried about selling my house and moving in a timely manner. It's a little presumptive, but I wanted to know of you fine peeps here had any experience with this sort of situation. Thanks a bunch in advance!

CVP/ BP and mechanical ventilation
Thanks for that info. I was helping with an open heart and got schooled why the CVP was higher in intubated pts vs. Non-intubated

Advice on Washington state job market
Awesome! That's relieving to hear that the job market is good out there for nurses. I have looked at the spokane area and had my eye on Olympia too. Guess I'll just have to pack the Fam up and check it out. I'll be happy to say goodbye to phoenix. Just wasn't for us after all. Thank you for your response!

Advice on Washington state job market
Awesome! Thanks very much for the info! It sounds better than I initially thought. All the information on the Internet is from 2007-2013 and it made it sound like their weren't jobs out there. I will keep what you said in mind and I also am open to a smaller hospital. That doesn't matter to me a bit. I can't thank you enough for your feedback. I'll have 2 years of ICU under my belt so I'm hoping that will help. Thanks again!
