I'm 29.
Married for 10 years, 11 this June.
I have an 8 year old son who will be 9 in May
I'm taking pre reqs for transition to RN in August 2009 and will be in the January 2010 LPN program at the Rankin campus...
Wow, we're sorta alike in some things. Where are you from? Where does your son go to school?
LOL, I said the same thing when I read yours...
I'm originally from California, moved quite a few times.
My son is at Ann smith right now and is moving over to Highland in August. What about you?

Well, we stay in flowood. He goes to Flowood elementary right now. Did you try to get in at Holmes? That would be so much closer for you for both programs.
I called Holmes, and the lady I spoke to told me there were like 400 applicants, so I said forget it. It'll be a little drive, but I can deal with it.

Is the HINDS program really as bad as everyone makes it out to be? Its the only 2 year program around my area and I'm skeptical about what I hear. I heard about the failing rate and the newspaper article about hinds. thanks for any input

John.. yes Hinds has had some bad publicity in the past about the high failing rate, bad instructors, horrible school, etc.. But from what I have heard, things have cleaned up a lot over there. I dont know of any details to support this, but I just heard from some people that they have basically "cleaned house" and it is not bad at all anymore.
Or at least I hope so.. since im starting at the AHC in the fall.

Was it hard for you to get in at all? I heard it was competitive. But what happens if I keep applying year after year and never get into a nursing program. Am I supposed to just keep working the bad jobs and still apply?

Don't just try to get into one particular school try several. Since you don't like the job that you are in and you want to get into nursing school quicker. Apply for the LPN and RN program and which one you get into first go for it. If you get into LPN first you can always go back for the RN one year program. I know how you feel working on a job that you don't like, but don't quit. Hang in there. Your day will come. I tried to get into Nursing Allied and was rejected every time. I was accepted at HCC.
