I have decided to start a thread for HCC future nurses that are applying for class beginning 2015 of spring. I would like us all to be able to share and relate to one another, while experiencing this exciting moment. I know it may seem a little early but better sooner then later. This will be my last semester before I can apply to the program. I am registered to take micro with lab and humanities fall 2014. I will be able to submit my application in right after my grades are posted. The deadline for the 2015 spring class is June 1st if I am not mistaken. How is everyone else holding up?
Got all my stuff taken care of today, that a relief.
im more reluctant these days of telling my friends and family that I got accepted to nursing school. Don't want to get the typical response anymore of " so your going to be waiting on old ppl all day? Why don't you just become a doctor.":banghead:
Hey everyone. I've been following this thread since the Spring and want to thank all of you who provide updates and insight into the program and application process. I was offered an alternate seat (GPA: 3.33), which I readily accepted, and am now waiting for the end of the month when I hopefully will be offered a seat in the class. I've been working at a local hospital for over eight years. Spent five years on various floors as a CNA, and am in my third year as an EMT in the ER (finally found my home). I'm absolutely stoked at the prospect of getting in. So I just wanted to say hi and thanks to you all. And in return if you all have any questions about the actually experience of being the a hospital feel free to ask. Also, if anyone is trying to decide between a cardiology II or III stethescope, I have one of each and in my experience the only difference is a rubber piece on the bell. I like my II.
Im reposting yhis here for those who dont have FB
For anyone who does want to get a few things purchased before orientation supplies need are: bandage scissors, pen light, stethoscope (another nursing student that had orientation in July this year said at orientation they recommended a littman classic 2 SE, but keep in mind the scope you buy you will have forever and it is important you have good quality scopes because when you take your assessment test, this is your scope you are depending on), white scrub top, port wine scrub bottom, if you do decide to get a scrub jacket it has to be port wine color, shoes have to be all white close toes and closed back (no crocks)and you have to wear white socks, you will need to buy patchs and sew them on to your scrub tops on the left side, 2 inches under the seam from your arm (if you choose to buy a scrub jacket then you will need to purchase a patch for that also) if you want to wear an under shirt, you must wear white. You will also need a second hand watch NOTE: only nude color and white bras are recommended to wear as other colors may be see through and you will be sent home. As for jewelry, you can have a small necklace with only a religious cross that is thin and does not hang over your scrubs, you can have ear rings only if they are stubs of gold or silver color (im dont see why diamonds wouldnt be accepted, and no visible tattoos. If I need to add anything please let me know and I will edit the post :)
