I have decided to start a thread for HCC future nurses that are applying for class beginning 2015 of spring. I would like us all to be able to share and relate to one another, while experiencing this exciting moment. I know it may seem a little early but better sooner then later. This will be my last semester before I can apply to the program. I am registered to take micro with lab and humanities fall 2014. I will be able to submit my application in right after my grades are posted. The deadline for the 2015 spring class is June 1st if I am not mistaken. How is everyone else holding up?

I found a PDF format about HCC possibly offering a Bachelors in science of nursing and in business management. Buts its up in the air because of budget. So I dont believe we would be able to get our bsn here yet. The meeting was just held February 7th this year. hcc is slow and take their time

Specializes in Urology.

The program that I am talking about they are still working in it. There won't be any information just yet. We were just told about it a few weeks ago

The BSN program has been mentioned at the past few orientations. Its not happening for any of our classes, I doubt it will happen for another few years.

As for the BSN program I would tend to agree with Juleby. They have been talking about this since I did my orientation back in Summer of 2012. IMHO if you are intending on getting your BSN then take a look at the State College of Florida's program and take classes based off what they will require to get into their program. It's cheap ($120 credit/hr roughly) and all online as long as you already have your ASN and you have a job (counts as clinical hours). USF is great, but if you go there on your own it's a lot more expensive.

As for a question about a PCT job, it depends. (You'll quickly learn "it depends" is always the answer in nursing! LoL) All hospitals are hiring for PCTs and as long as you get a job in the first semester or two you should be able to get a part time job somewhere. If you wait until semester 3 or 4 they are a lot less likely to hire you since they know you will be leaving soon. Also, some hospitals require you to get your PCT license as a student nurse and other hospitals don't. I'm not sure which do and which don't. During my job hunt I have also noticed that some hospitals actually hire student nurses so this is something you can look for as well.

Thank you! I hate to ask you a basic question... But, a PCT license is same as a CNA license, right??

I am still thinking about USF second degree program, but they are much more expensive and concentrated(22 hr/semester), so I would love to stay at HCC as I earn money somewhere and as I get some experience in the field.. A lot to think about, but I really appreciate for sharing your experiences:)

Yes leap, julby, and lovely thank you for the info. Alot to look at. Im going to take a look at the medical dosage calculations and read read read. At least ill have basic knowledge. Im so ready to start this journey . I am also scared for my financial situation. Anything can happen and change between now and January. Im not stable at all financially.

I got updates up wed advisor finally! Last name starts with K!

Can you guys post what your documents say?

When you say award letter you mean the financial aid award letter? How exactly does it work? Do they automatically get the funds from the school?

hey again! the red barn near dale mabry has the nursing books availabable NOW if your interested. unlike hcc all you have to do is show your award letter and you instantly have your books. on ly downside is they may have a waiting list since this is a popular and cheaper spot to get the book package. I did it last semester and got the last one available and it was two days after orientation.

You give them your financial aid award letter and when the school deposits your financial aid refund they withdraw the package money. It's very convenient.
