Hillsborough Community College - Spring 2014

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

Should I just show the list of required shots to my doctor and they can test me for immunity? I am afraid I will have to get everything done within the next few months. Ugh...

If you cant get your records because they were done a long time ago like me, just have your Dr. do the titers test and he/she can see if you still have ammunity. Your Dr. will know what to do as soon as you show him/her the paper. The important thing is to make an appointment with your doctor ASAP and start your Hep-B series since alot of places are having a hard time getting that med in stock. The only thing i have remaing to do is my 3rd and final Hep-B shot thats due in Jan and im done.

Hey guys this is from a previous thread, this is what we can expect at orientation. Also, campus assignments are usually out by second week in November or right before orientation.

Day 1

all the rules and regulations, list of everything we need to buy, what everything costs, when everything is due, what books we need and when they will be available, vaccination information, CPR, how to upload the requested information (shots, physcials ect.) Clinical sites and rules.

Day 2

They split into their class groups and had a getting to know you exercise, tour of the classroom and lab areas, met the professors, and the drug test ( this took a long time).

She said they also covered study skills, stress management, time management and the like.

She suggested we bring a big water and some snacks and take lots of notes.

Hope this helps!

Fingerprinting and Acceptance -- done! The poor gal doing the prints probably wanted to kill me. I think I had to re-do it like 15 times :)

I just left there! I think you must have been right before me.

I thought, "Man someone is having a hard time with the fingerprints!" Lol

Honestly, the machine didn't like my ring and pinkies so I can't even say anything! Lol

The same thing happen to me, for some reason the machine did not like my pinky...I had to re-do it like 5x. That lady must be swamped with people showing up for finger prints. Now we just sit back and TRY to relax until November 21st. Its going to be a long 7 week wait, let the STRESS begin....

I still need BLS. Has anyone done theirs yet?

Are you referringto the BLS/CPR for healthcare professionals class we need? I also need to doit, haven’t decided if I will do it in advance or wait until after orientationto get it done. It all depends on what dates are available. I know TGH &Brandon Regional Hospitals have classes almost every month, as does theAmerican Red Cross. I’m going to check to see what’s available in the nextcouple weeks to see if I can get it done before orientation. That will make oneless thing I need to worry about later.
