Hello! My name is Jody and I also applied for Spring 2013 for Dale Mabry days. Good luck to everyone who applied to HCC! I am so excited to finally get to this point and am looking forward to starting a career in nursing.

It is a great day... received 4 of my 6 required paper transcripts in the mail today (which I will forward to HCC myself when I get the other 2). And you know what it felt like?

Now im getting worried, i turned in my application may 3rd and i still dont see anythingg about my nursing application under my webadvisor (documents). If i was to go to the dm administration building where i dropped off my application and ask them if they have it would they tell me? does anyone know?

I've resigned to the fact that nothing will show up in WebAdvisor anytime soon, as it hasn't for me either. I would contact the Nursing department if I were you?

From the Spring 2012 thread, it seems like a lot of people's apps didn't show up under My Documents until after the June 1st deadline has passed. I know that they have my app because they cashed my check. I really wouldn't worry about it too much, although I know the wait is killing all of us. I think they just have a large number of applications to process and I'm sure it will show up soon.

Hey all! I am a member of the Spring 2012 entry class. Just finished NP 1. Any questions you have, feel free to ask. The first thing I'll tell you is try not to stress. I spent the entire waiting period agonizing over "well...maybe the letters will come early" or "why aren't my docs showing up!!!" etc, etc. (although, really...I can tell you NOT to agonize, but..you will, others told me not to, and I still did, it's basically impossible not to, but hopefully I can help relieve a LITTLE bit of agony)

As for the couple of posts I've read on here so far:

The only thing that HCC looks at is pre-req GPA, (unless you are at the very bottom of the list tied with someone else, in that case they'll look at your Overall HCC GPA). They do not look at whether you are traditional or non-traditional, whether you have experience, whether you have letters of recommendation, or whether you already have any degrees. USF does, but not HCC. Just nursing pre-req gpa.

Some people's docs didn't show up until July. Yuck, right? So, wait a while before stressing over it.

I got my acceptance letter the second week of September (three days before my birthday..happy birthday to me!), the same day most others got theirs. You can wish for it sooner, but unless anything drastically different happens, it'll be September. Every spring entry class that I know of has gotten theirs in Sept.

Acceptance cutoff was about a 3.4, alternates cutoff was about a 3.3.

I've got all kinds of tips/things to buy, etc, and if you want them now, I can post them, but it might be best to not overload you with info, until you know whether you've been accepted.

The best thing to do this is summer is RELAX. Seriously, you literally will not be able to BREATHE come next Spring, use this time to do those things that give you joy, because life will be a complete whirlwind in approx 8 months.

Hello RnNtrainng, thank you for your info, it is very very helpfull. I'm constantly reading your spring 2012 thread, guys, tons of useful info there, thank you. How was your first year? Is it much harder than prereqs? Please feel free to share anything you think will help.

Hey, Gradius, 6 transcripts????? Wow. It is only 9 prereqs. Did you move a lot?

It was definitely more difficult than the pre-reqs, you have to get used to a different style of testing, and retaining information. If you read the information, and study, you will do well. Most of it is common sense, but even so, in order to use the common sense, you have to know the disease process, body systems, etc.

Keep fresh with your A&P information. Almost everything is based on the stuff you learn in A&P.

Tests are different in that there are usually at least two answers make "common" sense. That is where your knowledge of the information itself will come in hand. One answer will be correct 100% of the time, one answer will be correct 80% of the time, etc.

Clinicals are FUN! Nerve wracking until you get used to it..but trust me, by the end of your first day of clinical, you'll be walking around that place feeling like you OWNED it. Answer as many call lights as you can that first day..it helps build confidence.

There are 7 to 8 exams.15 lab hours, 5 computer hours, community service project, article reviews (about 2 of them, give or take, depending on your Professor), Group Presentation, 2 Care plans. Quizzes, possibly (my professor only gave us 1).

:) They need all of them. All, I know how schools are about this, must be precise or they will consider your records incomplete; I've had this happen before where I sent for instance my UCF transcripts somewhere and despite having the FAU grades, they still want official copies.

Thus, my 6 transcripts are:

1. High School. Yes they need that regardless of prior college attendance which I still find funny. 13 years ago now for me.

2. My first CC, Broward, was where I did every prereq for HCC's program except Micro + Micro Lab.

3. UCF, I have a BA from there. Yes I know this makes me eligible for an ABSN program but I don't have $20K to live off for a year in loans or savings. (I figure $10K living, $10K tuition). I also want to do the ASN since I might do an RN-MSN in a few years.

4. FAU, I was a transient student there during my BA schooling. 9 credits.

5. Valencia CC in Orlando. I have 2 A.S. degrees from there (will have a 3rd by December) and also completed some BSN prereqs through VCC also, even though those aren't relevant to the HCC program.

6. St. Pete College. I took online Micro and Micro Lab through SPC since I was trying to move back to Orlando earlier this year (was in South Florida for January and February, returned to Orlando in March). Online Micro in SPC was best option, most flexible.

I am so glad someone started this post! I am applying for Spring 2013 at DM campus evening classes and just sent my application off this morning! My pre-requisite gpa is a 3.6 and I'm really hoping that is good enough. A friend of mine is in the program at PC going into her second year and she basically said that you can forget about whatever social life you may have had because the program is so consuming but totally worth it. She loves it and doesn't mind the sacrifice. She also mentioned to try to get your books early (as soon as you receive your acceptance letter) because you will be tested on about 10 chapters within the first few weeks of class. Not sure if it is that way at DM as well but I'm taking her advice and studying ahead. GOOD LUCK to everyone that is applying! Let the tortuous 5 months of waiting begin! :)
