Hillsborough Community College RN program fall 2013

Published

Hello,

I plan to attend to HCC's 2013 fall evening nursing program (applying in Jan). I am curious to see what people people's GPA is going in. I hear spring's is lower than fall's.

Thanks!

yes..books will cost 580

The coupon they gave us at orientation took $61 off of the $611

Oh, see I thought they meant the $611 was the discount from the $900 something dollars total. Thank you for clarifying :o) I was also wondering do you know a good brand of white nursing shoes? All the nurses I know say Asics, but the all white ones are difficult to find >.

I got Dansko XP from The Walking Company. If you have an average size arch, it's a great pair of shoes. Make sure you get the XP since I've heard nurses say that the regular Dansko shoes are not as comfortable. Has anyone else heard anytging else about Dansko XP?

How about watches? Any advice on a particular brand? I'm thinking that an elastic brand would be better so I can move it easily away if necessary.

Thanks a bunch!!

How much were they? I bought a pair of Dansko several years ago (for casual wear), and I liked them, except they are very stiff...I typically like a softer leather. They were comfortable other than that. Are the nursing shoes a softer leather?

I bought a white, leather band watch...it has regular and military time marks on it.

Shoes are a personal item. What works for one may not work for another. I'd advise trying on several different brands and see what feels good to you. Shoesforcrews has pretty decent selection which are also slip resistant.

I got all of my books for $400.00. However, that does not include the ebooks. I am a hands on book person. However, that being said, the books are monstrous so I will probably purchase the ebook for the fundamentals book. I can get that for $79. so I will still save a few dollars. Oh, and the med surg book is huge too. We are going to be reading in our sleep.

Wow. Where did you get them? Did you also purchase the simulations package (I think they are key codes)?

The Danskos are $139.00. (Very expensive). I have a difficult time finding a comfortable pair of shoes. So, when I found them, I quickly snatched them up. Olioxenfree is right; shoes are a personal item. Make sure you if you buy the Danskos that you wear them around your home to be certain that you like them. The leather is stiff. The comfort of the "XP" Dansko is considerably better compared to other Danskos.

Thank you for the info about the watch! I wondered if we needed military time.

I was a massage therapist prior to going for nursing and I had a pair of danskos. Sometimes I would have 7 massages a day and the majority of them were at the least 60min deep tissue massages. Those danskos really saved my feet and my posture. They felt a little heavy on my feet at first so I had to get used to it but they made a difference. To bad their black : ( not sure if I wanna spend $130 again.

Amazon. Yes I got the simulations too. I did not purchase any of the ebooks though. I may end up purchasing the ebooks for the med surge and the fundamentals but not until after the first week or two. I don't want to purchase them if I won't use them. Like I said, i really like using books. I may take the books to have the bindings removed and have them put into ring binders. Just not sure yet. As I said, I probably won't do anything further until after school starts.

Exactly one month from tomorrow. August 19th :nailbiting:

My shoes are slip-resistant comfort soles from Payless. They're comfy and they were only $30!

I almost took that route as I also prefer real books; however, I really like Ebooks when I need to cross reference a subject across multiple chapters. Being able to search "hyperglycemia" and seeing it highlighted in the cardio, diabetes, and respiratorty chapters helps me see the bigger picture more quickly. Plus having the Ebooks for life for was an added incentive.

Also for those of you considering getting older versions of books; I highly discourage. I compared my new Med-Surg book to my friends 7th edition and there are major differences. Even some fo the values for normal are different.
