Hillsborough Community College RN program fall 2013

Published

Hello,

I plan to attend to HCC's 2013 fall evening nursing program (applying in Jan). I am curious to see what people people's GPA is going in. I hear spring's is lower than fall's.

Thanks!

It's not that they aren't good. From what I've read they expect us to put serious effort into reading and stuff, which is expected honestly. If they baby us we wouldn't really learn the material and be the amazing nurses we want to be! :)

I am ok with working hard and not having the professors baby us, it just that from what I read its more than that. Like the professor at SS for example, some people at rate my professor said that she does not like to answer questions, and if that's the case, than she is really not a good professor. That is the only thing I am afraid of :nailbiting:

I don't think we should take some of the comments on that site too seriously. As most of us know this class is not going to be a cake walk. If anyone thinks it is, they are in for a rough time. This program will take a huge amount of independent study and the professors don't have the time to hold everyones hand. This program is different in that it takes critical thinking. Every little answer is not going to be handed to us. Some people can't cut it so they go onto those sites and complain about the instructors. This program will be a "welcome" to the medical world. It isn't pretty most of the time and it takes lots of work. If you think the instructors are tough, just wait till you start working with doctors. We will all need to have tougher skins for that. I have also heard clinicals can be rough, we will be paying our dues. Best to keep a positive attitude and plow through.

SO TRUE!!!!!! We will all have to bust it on our own. HCC has a high NCLEX pass rate (don't know the exact percentage), so apparently they are doing something right. My daughter-in-law has her BSN from FSU, and said that critical thinking is the core skill that is taught in nursing process classes. They are teaching you to think their way. It won't be easy, but I am confident that with hard work and determination, we will each reach our break-through. Remember, if God brought you to it, He will bring you through it.

You guys are right!! I think I am just a bit nervous, that's all.

I'm getting a little nervous too, but we can be nervous together. We are both attending SS. I'll look for you at orientation next week.

My assignment is plant city days, which I am very happy about. I'm starting to get nervous but I'm super excited at the same time!

I completely identify with your feelings. But that just means that we are ready to start and go through hell and back for our dreams:laugh:...

That's a really good idea. Hopefully we can just sit wherever and we can sit with those attending our campus/time. It'll make getting to know each other happen early so that we don't have to worry about that when the semester starts. :)

Almost time for orientation! :woot: Anyone else as excited as I am?

Yes, both. I am wondering how early I will have to leave in the morning to get there on time. I don't know the campus well either. I am sooooo directionally challenged.

I live in Lakeland...I am leaving at 6:30, which I am sure is overkill, but Tampa traffic is so unpredictable, I don't want to take any chances. And, I only know where the drop box for admissions is at D.M...lol. I have no idea about that campus beyond that. I am going to have to look around once I am there...another reason I am leaving so early.
