Hillsborough Community College Fall 2017

U.S.A. Florida

Is anyone else planning on applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program? I know it is really early, but I am just too excited. I want other people to share my excitement with!! :)

Hey Everyone!! I have been semi-stalking these boards the last couple of days but didn't want to post just yet until I got my grades for this semester first! I am almost finished with my prerequisite courses but I have College Algebra and Intro to Sociology next semester - online. If all goes well, I hope to register for the Fall Semester with a 3.8 GPA (I really hope that is enough to get in). I have yet to take my TEAS. I really wish the best of luck to all of us!

Who did you take for anatomy?

I had XXXX online. He was okay.. at best. Very difficult to contact. He has two proctored exams, midterm and final, but since I am stationed in South Carolina, I had to find a proctor here and it took him about 19 days to finally reach out to the proctor. My class had a group email thing, and it seemed everyone had some issue with him. I am sure on campus he is better, but personally I don't recommend him. I don't usually rely on reviews but most of these reviews are pretty accurate.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Per our terms of service, we ask that you NOT names of teachers. Thanks.

Are you moving to Tampa because of military? Are you PCSing to MacDill? If so, I am in the same boat. Also, with a 3.8 I think that makes you very competitive as the cut off last semester was like a 3.5-something!

Trauma, my apologies, I didn't know we weren't supposed to use names. I know now.

Ashley, I just ETS'ed out of the Army and joined the reserves. I have family in Tampa. McDill is an AMAZING base. Half of the base is the beach. Have you started studying for the TEAS?

Ugh. I have studied very little for the TEAS. I have been procrastinating. I purchased a study set from ATItesting which includes 2 practice tests and a book. Took the first one and did "ok". I need to refresh on a lot of what I don't remember and especially the English. English has always been my weakness.

You?

I am going to start studying **today**. I have read really good things about the ATI testing manual (that comes with the test A and Test B). Whereabouts do I go to find that? I have been out of highschool for quite a few years so I need a BIG refreshment on earth science, etc. I am sure you will do amazing! When do you plan on testing?

I purchased everything at ATItesting.com. I got the codes for the tests immediately via email, but it took like a week or so to get my book. Seems to be a good supplement to the tests.

I'm with you about the earth sciences because it's been a long time since I've had anything like that and it was evident on my practice test.

I plan on taking my TEAS over spring semester, maybe in the next few months or so. I really don't want to bother with another entrance test after having to take the ACT with the last nursing program I was in.

Hey guys!!!

I'm also planning on applying for the nursing program in the fall. I unfortunately have a&p II, Micro and sociology to take spring term... all online too... wish me luck!

So I just have a few questions

has anyone taken a cpr class at hcc?

is it easier to get in to fall vs spring?

anyone trying to go to DM or PC days?

should a 3.5gpa be a safe bet to get accepted?

are the TEAS really hard?

I should finish with that or better... but am a little worried now.

Wow you have quite the course load! Good luck. I heard the lowest gpa accepted spring semester was like a 3.52 or something. I don't know if spring or fall are that much different as far as admission statistics go. I just took another practice test for the TEAS (heard the practice tests are very much like the test) and scored an 80 so I don't think it's that hard. You really need to be familiar with your a&p, so I would go ahead and get through most of your a&p class before taking it.

Jmcm - First of all, Welcome! I haven't given the CPR too much thought because the application stated "The deadline to provide immunizations, physical exam and CPR will be 3-5 weeks after the Nursing Program Orientation". If we get accepted, the orientation should be Mid-July according to the Application. So that will give us some time to worry about that, but no, I personally don't know anyone who got CPR certified at HCC. I did mine through the Army and it hasn't expired yet. As Ashley said, I don't think there is much difference between Spring or Fall, it all depends on who applies that cycle. I am trying to get Dale Mabry mornings! If not, I will happily take evenings, all of the other campuses are much further. As far as a 3.5 GPA, it just depends on the cutoff. A person a few cycles ago got in with a 3.38 (that was in 2015, I think) so it just depends.

Ashley - An 80 is amazing!! I am going to order from the ATItesting website today! I am so motivated, I can't wait until the holidays are over so I can just focus on studying haha!

Thank you both for the responses.

I'll have a 3.55 gpa at worst... Hoping for the 3.63 if I get all As in my remaining courses. So yeah, I'm crossing my fingers. Dale Mabry mornings/afternoons would be ideal!!! I'd take Plant City too... Well I'd prob take anything. Lol.

Oh and I was thinking CPR through hcc since I found a one credit/one day/10 hour class/covered by financial aid... Just waiting on an advisor to confirm I can take it.

Is the TEAS really that hard? I've been seeing people posting their scores and very few make it over 75.... Congrats on that 80 Ashley!!! í ½í¸€
