Hillsborough Community College-Fall 2014

Published

Hello everyone,

So my dream since I can remember has been to become a nurse; however, it seems as if it will never happen. I recently finished my pre-requisite courses to apply to the fall semester of the HCC nursing program. While I did not get any C's I made mostly B's :blink:earning A's in two classes and one lab. I realize this is not good enough since it puts my GPA at around a 3.38. Since I did not fail any of my classes, I don't believe I will be able to retake them. Is there any possible way to retake them? Or any way to increase my GPA since they mainly look at the pre-requisite courses? If not, what other options do I have for becoming a nurse? If anyone is out there who could offer any help it would be greatly appreciated. I will submit my application regardless but I don't have any high hopes of getting accepted, if there is anyway to increase my chances I would be so grateful to find out!

Ah man I probably did :( I'm not sure what I can't find it @lovelylioness23 I'll still keep trying but has anybody gotten there shoes yet? I'm not sure if it mattered on what type as long as they were closed toed, white, and leather?

@cane I think when we did our fingerprints they also did the background check at the same time. I'm not sure why on the certified profile it's asking us again though "/

ok..just add me on facebook you and Edberry. I will send you both PMs. I would rather get a sneaker than a nursing shoe, but it seems like they really stressed "nursing" shoe. I was looking at allheart.com. There are two they look like a full clog. I know one was Nursemates..it had a heart on the side.

I got a phone call because im on Xanax. I was honest about it and have a script for it but occupational health doc said I might not get in now because I am a liability. I am only on it now cuz I was fighting thyroid cancer and I got into a car accident right before my surgery. I tried calling ms palmberg but no call back yet because I am not going to spend hundreds of dollars on physical and immunizations and not be able to attend nursing program. im lost and scared and don't know who to call. The doctor I talked to said I might be impaired. I don't know how im impaired with a 4.0 prereq GPA but ok.

Sorry to hear about that msshannonrt... I hope everything wprks out in ur favor

Thank You. We will see. Hopefully this whole journey is not useless!

I kind of can understand what they are saying, but you shouldn't be at fault for a medical issue that you have. I feel as long as you are able to provide documentation and your doctor clears you that's all that should matter. They never got back to me either and I sent numerous emails. Try sending one to Pamela Baker and call to leave a message.

thank you I have been a Respiratory Therapist for 12 years so im sure I can handle any situation and no I am not impaired which is what they are saying I just wish someone would call me back

I understand. There is your proof as well. You have been working in the field for the past 12 years. Don't worry. You will be okay.

Maybe you can see another doctor and get what you need from him/her.

I would not give up, if I were you, msshannonrt. It is not easy to get in this program and you did it with 4.0GPA. Hope to see you soon and hear from you what is going on.

Hi fellow HCC students! I just graduated in May from the nursing program so I've been exactly where you were 2 years go! Congratulations to all of you who were accepted into the nursing program. This, in and of itself, is not an easy task.

Secondly, I can try and answer any questions to the best of my knowledge if anyone wants to ask me anything. I graduated from SouthShore so I can probably answer more specific questions about this campus.

Good luck to all of you on your nursing journey. It isn't going to be easy, but the two years will fly by. At the end of it all you will wonder how it went by so fast! :)
