Hillsborough Community College-Fall 2014

U.S.A. Florida

Hello everyone,

So my dream since I can remember has been to become a nurse; however, it seems as if it will never happen. I recently finished my pre-requisite courses to apply to the fall semester of the HCC nursing program. While I did not get any C's I made mostly B's :blink:earning A's in two classes and one lab. I realize this is not good enough since it puts my GPA at around a 3.38. Since I did not fail any of my classes, I don't believe I will be able to retake them. Is there any possible way to retake them? Or any way to increase my GPA since they mainly look at the pre-requisite courses? If not, what other options do I have for becoming a nurse? If anyone is out there who could offer any help it would be greatly appreciated. I will submit my application regardless but I don't have any high hopes of getting accepted, if there is anyway to increase my chances I would be so grateful to find out!

Denied with my 3.54.....would have assumed an alternate, but oh well. Will be looking into a few private schools,as well as reapplying for the spring, as HCC accepts nursing transfers who have only taken their first semester elsewhere. Hope you all do great!

Haha thanks for the info @HCCStudent2011 ") and does anyone know where we can get the prepaid self addressed post card? So we can insert one with the confirmation packet. I thought someone said HCC has them at the office but you would just have to provide the stamps?

I was not accepted but wait-listed with a 3.43 GPA. I applied to State College of Florida Yesterday and requested all of my transcripts besides High-school to be sent in. Hopefully my transcripts will be evaluated in time of the deadline so I can apply. It sucks I will have to drive an hour to school but I really want to get into nursing school in the fall.

@Dontavia Same here. I've applied to SCF and sent transcripts, just waiting to see if they are evaled in time to do it actually apply to program. Have you taken TEAS yet?

Actually No, I printed out a bunch of self assessment practice tests and I am going over them now. I plan on taking the TEAS on May 8th at the Venice Campus. I want to get the highest score possible, just in case it may increase my chances of getting in.

I haven't looked at it yet, how difficult are the TEAS questions in your opinion?

I've taken TEAS twice. I can only say one thing... buy the study book from ATI, and study the Science part like whoa. My overall score went up 5% after I took it the second time, first time I didn't have it.

The rest of the test is basically high school stuff, it's nothing-- but Science killed me as it does most people.

Transcripts were evaluated. So now just to take TEAS on 4/28 @ venice (Did not realize dates were so limited, was the only one available before deadline. For those who are interesting in SCF, I started a thread for 2014 fall program. https://allnurses.com/florida-nursing/scf-fall-2014-a-918419.html

Unfortunately, you can't repeat a class where you have earned a C or better. That is a rule within the state of Florida and its public colleges/universities. I tried once. Then, if you take the class at a private college to try to replace a B with an A, HCC's policy is they take the first successful attempt, which is the B.

Does anyone know what the dress code is for orientation? Are we supposed be purchasing scrubs or do we just wear normal clothes? Thanks and looking forward to meeting all of you!
