Hillsborough Community College-Fall 2014

Published

Hello everyone,

So my dream since I can remember has been to become a nurse; however, it seems as if it will never happen. I recently finished my pre-requisite courses to apply to the fall semester of the HCC nursing program. While I did not get any C's I made mostly B's :blink:earning A's in two classes and one lab. I realize this is not good enough since it puts my GPA at around a 3.38. Since I did not fail any of my classes, I don't believe I will be able to retake them. Is there any possible way to retake them? Or any way to increase my GPA since they mainly look at the pre-requisite courses? If not, what other options do I have for becoming a nurse? If anyone is out there who could offer any help it would be greatly appreciated. I will submit my application regardless but I don't have any high hopes of getting accepted, if there is anyway to increase my chances I would be so grateful to find out!

I'm definitely applying again for HCC Spring and Brewster. HCC Spring will find out acceptance late august/early September. Therefore I would find out before Brewster LPN classes start. Debating still about applying for PHCC/SPC spring programs. I wish they found out before October, but SPC says notified by Nov 1.

Do you know of anyone who has been allowed to retake a B course? Not even writing a letter. I do realize this is unfair but I can't help be be hopeful, I wish I had just failed one of those courses and retook it.

Nursinghopeful2344, I think you should look at State College of Florida - Manatee county. If you are able to drive 3 time a week this would be a good alternative. Someone told me that you can apply without all pre-refs done and it is not so competitive. Google their website - applications for Fall 2014 are being accepted now in April... But if I am not wrong you will need to take TEAS test to get in.. If this does not work for you, I would suggest to reapply( if you can wait) or do LPN-RN bridge.. No matter what happens just keep trying.

I just took a look at this and the deadline for fall is May 15!! I might seriously consider, its not that much farther from Tampa than SPC or PHCC.

I took a look at it as well, it definitely caught my eyes. But Nursing being such a rigorous program and it being about an hour away from my house. I'm just not sure. I don;t even know what would be the best option for me.

I'm assuming credits are transferrable to SFC? I'm going to meet with HCC academic advising on Monday. Too many questions!

Hey there @sana214, I do not think I congratulated you on your acceptance ! :D So exciting !

I was also wondering if you knew of any good LPN programs that maybe are not so expensive?

Thank You!! It is super exciting! One of my co-workers did the LPN program at Erwin and she had nothing but good things to say about the school. She's now looking to do the bridge program at USF. I would recommend you look into it and see if you think it's for you. :))

Irwin Technical school

Does anybody know when we take our drug test?

I received my acceptance letter today!!! Extremely excited! @cane I believe they will give us the dates of everything at the orientation (I think I saw that from an old thread)

@cane I read my papers over and over again to make sure and it just says we need to pay that 38$ fee so I'm guessing they'll give us all that info at orientation concerning the drug test.. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though

Drug test is second day of orientation. Everyone stands in a line in designated bathrooms and is accompanied by someone outside your door. Fun,fun lol
