Hillsborough Community College-Fall 2014

Published

Hello everyone,

So my dream since I can remember has been to become a nurse; however, it seems as if it will never happen. I recently finished my pre-requisite courses to apply to the fall semester of the HCC nursing program. While I did not get any C's I made mostly B's :blink:earning A's in two classes and one lab. I realize this is not good enough since it puts my GPA at around a 3.38. Since I did not fail any of my classes, I don't believe I will be able to retake them. Is there any possible way to retake them? Or any way to increase my GPA since they mainly look at the pre-requisite courses? If not, what other options do I have for becoming a nurse? If anyone is out there who could offer any help it would be greatly appreciated. I will submit my application regardless but I don't have any high hopes of getting accepted, if there is anyway to increase my chances I would be so grateful to find out!

Would someone please send me the immunization form as well? :) [email protected]

I have never seen so much activity on this site before, congrats, again.

I look forward to meeting, learning, and working with you all.

Congrats to all who made it ! What an excitong new chapter :) I will look into pursuing other options to make my dream happen :)

You might want to look into South University, on Himes Ave, I believe. Thanks for starting such a good thread.

All this activity on here reminds me of the competition that we fortunately do not have to deal with anymore.

I got in!!! So excited and congrats to those that did as well!! I had like a 3.5 or 3.6 I think! But I did already have my first semester of my BSN done so don't know if that helped! Can't wait to meet you all!!

Also, can someone email me the immunization form? My email is [email protected]

Thanks!!

Unfortunately I didn't apply anywhere else. I will reapply in Spring for HCC, SPC, and PHCC. Was looking at schools like Galen or UMA, but they all get terrible reviews, are not accredited, and are extremely expensive.

I'm kind of bummed I can not just retake a couple of my B classes and try for an A. It would have been better if I'd just failed them almost. :(

Congratulations to those who did get accepted :)

I was an applicant for both Spring 2013 (denied, but not due to GPA) and Fall 2013 (waitlisted, 3.52) That said, two things:

1) Spring's floor GPA is much lower. Your 3.47 is all but a guaranteed admit. I saw 3.3's get in if I recall.

2) You CAN retake a class and shoot for an A, but ONLY your Math class. If you applied with MAC1105 and now go back and take anything higher, that will override your MAC1105 grade. I am doing this exact thing this summer, taking MAC1114 (Trig) and MAC1147 (Precal) for this very reason. By my calculation if I get an A in either of those, it will cancel my B in College Algebra and make my prereq GPA rise by 0.15 points which is HUGE for admission purposes.

3) Don't do the private schools, that's throwing your money away for the same degree. HCC for Spring, you should have nothing to worry about. Deadline is around early June, I think...

Best wishes.

Thanks for the advice. :) I'm terrible at math, so Idk if I would be able to pass. I am going to meet with an academic advisor tomorrow and go over my options. :)

*side note* Does anyone know if our pre reqs are transferrable to SPC and PHCC? Cause they have a different numbering system I think.

Most prereqs transfer to SPC, but they do not accept HCC's Microbiology. I'm considering SPC, taking MCB there and hoping for an A to apply. I was also considering Galen, they were recently accredited, its a lot of money but my 3.38 will not get me anywhere else :(

@NursingHopeful2344 Rasmussen is more focused on your TEAS scores! If you get their required score, which from what I understand is very doable, you're pretty much in! I have friends that have graduated or are currently attending and they have all said very positive things about it! There are small classes and great professors. That may be something for you to look into :)

I"ve heard such mixed reviews about all those private schools, I'm kind of afraid to take anything out of the cc or public university kind. Plus they are just so gosh darn expensive. If I do not get in, I'm going to go with LPN to RN bridge program. I jus can not justify the cost of Private.

I've just looked into it, these schools are so expensive! :( I contacted an adviser at SPC, because I could retake their Microbiology and hopefully get my GPA up, but they say they accept mostly Pinellas County residents. Its just so discouraging :(
