Hide-a-Butt patient gowns

Almost 90% of patient's ask, "Is my butt showing"? I myself don't answer the question, I just get another gown and put it on them opening in the front. Problem solved! Nope, why not invent a gown that already covers the butt with easy access for the nurse or doctor to examine the patient! Gown with a button flap over the rear? It would protects patient's privacy and decrease patient's anxiety from worrying about it!

well, the guys would not like gowns. In an emergency you don't need to take time to undo fasteners. Also, might be harder to keep clean. The second gown, used as a robe like you did, is still the best answer for now. This is one reason I wish we cold restrict visitors more. I hate having to walk patients thru congested hallways

Classicdame,

Yes I agree! It would be hard to keep them sanitary and infection control would most likely be compromised!

Yeah the men don't care. They start to undress before you even leave room. It's going to be and has always been a problem with visitors lingering in the halls. They are concerned about they're loved one so I can understand why they do it, but it is a safety issue!

I feel so bad for patients who have to ask "is my rear showing?" Some of my patients were bigger and the straps to tie in back simply wouldn't work. I too, would just grab another gown and put it on them like a coat to cover them. I got some hell from housekeeping, but what was I supposed to do? These people NEED to walk, and who wants to walk with their behind out on display? Not me!

using 2 gowns is standard operating procedure where I've worked...

Exactly laKrugRN. That's my point! They need to walk to avoid getting PE's, also for several other reasons, especially post-op patients, but they are hesitant to do so because if this very reason. You hit the nail on the head! I too use the second gown as a robe and it's the only other resource we have. I believe it's SOP where I work too! I especially don't want my butt showing, since my employer and my medical coverage are one in the same! Gotta face my co-workers after they see my butt?? I think not!

I feel like we are between a rock and a hard place on this one. I would rather take a little heat from laundry or housekeeping rather than my patient have PE!

Good day, Buttercup10:

I'm glad there's truth to the statement ALL generalizations are false ;-) I am a guy, and I do care. I would refuse to undress without privacy unless there were valid reasons for doing so otherwise.

Thank you.

No disrespect was intended pmabraham! Don't want to offend anyone! By what I said in my previous comment I should have stated most men or some men! Yes I agree that there needs to be a reason to do so, so my guess is they aren't modest when it comes to an emergency or non emergency medical situation!

I tell my patients "why do you think we call it the ICU?" So corny but they all laugh.

LOL....Muser69 that's hilarious!!

do your gowns not have ties that make the gown a wrap around? Our gowns tie at the neck, have a tie on the inside at the waist and then the back wraps around and ties at the side. Our Bari gowns are the same way.
