Google "AR 40 501" which is the medical standards for military entrance.
Are you are a reservist or civilian? Sometimes there is a difference in retention vs new applicants. I would use it to get a lead and search the document for yourself.. that way you can talk to a recruiter after arming yourself with some basic info and perhaps knowing some options.

Might consider: Some branches may offer waivers that others won't.

Thanks for the info. I googled and it said history of Hernias (current) disqualify. It also said gerd would disqualify, which of course hiatal hernia and gerd go hand in hand. It is unclear if the hernia is repaired if it would disqualify. It sounds as if 6 months after the corrective surgery one would be eligible however having a hx of GERD would disqualify.
SO I guess the big question is - is it waiverable? I am guessing that would depend on the person at the time the waiver is submitted???
Thanks again.

Hi. Happy New Year to all!
When you initially start the process to get into the ANC, you will meet with your Health Care Recruiter and she/he will ask you a few introductory questions regarding your health....When you progress further and you get to MEPS you will fill out a DD 2807 which is a record of your medical history.
I am not advocating that you mislead anyone or lie BUT I would certainly approach the health care recruiter and say that you had this medical condition x number of years ago and advocate for yourself.....Many things are waiverable
You will be asked about your current health care provider. If you don't have one, say so....Your journey through MEPS will certainly afford you a very complete medical exam. I know someone who had a Hx of HTN, but he didn't have a health care provider. When he went thru MEPS he did not mention his prior Hx of HTN. Why? Well, he had lost weight, modified his diet and continued to have regular exercise. His SBP & DBP actually dropped by 20 mmHg, so when he went through MEPS his recorded BP was WNL. (He did mention that he had been diagnosed with HTN to his recruiter and his health care recruiter continued to put together his packet)
In the above case, not mentioning something worked for his benefit. Again, I am NOT ADVOCATING that one tell a falsehood, a lie.
I wish you luck on your journey! Remember, you can be your best advocate. I am hard-of-hearing and I failed the audiology part of the exam. But I showed the practitioner at MEPS that I could function well in the "hearing world" and I was able to eventually get a waiver for presbycusis (I was older when I applied for a direct Commission in the ARNC and it HELPED ME A LOT that my recruiter requested a medical waiver....But you've gotta remember that the initial waiver was recommended by the MEPS MD)

Hi Athena,
Along these lines, but not about hiatal hernia.......I am applying for Active duty now (for the CRNA program)I commission ANRC April 2008, OBLC finished this Nov. 2008
My recruiter said my waivers (O.K.ed for ANC Reserve last year) could be used for my AC accession. Did you find that true? I had several waivers.......
I am kinda on a "tight" time line here.....
Thanks

Hi there OTD! Happy New Year to you!
YES, YES, YES your previously accepted or granted waivers that you had for RC are still in play for when you decide to prepare your packet to "cross over". In fact, none of that should matter! You will not have to go through MEPS (again); your health care recruiter will make sure the packet is complete and get it before the Board.
GOOD LUCK OTD!
