I felt so sick to my stomach right when I parked at the testing center. I wanted to quickly review my notes but absolutely nothing was sticking to my head. I honestly feel like I failed.. And this is my 3rd try. There were just so many medications and diseases that I have never heard of. I have yet to do the pvt trick. I think I'm just going to wait for the results to come in the mail. Anyone have any idea when I will receive it? I forgot how long it took the last 2 times..

I've heard that the Pearson Vue Trick may not work if you fail third time (or whatever your state's limit is on number of times taking the NCLEX). The reason is this: if your state limits you to taking it three times, then requires you to take a refresher course before you take it the fourth time, the computer 'knows' that you're ineligible to retest so you get the screen saying so, rather than it directing you to reapply with your credit card info. In other words, you can't take it again--not because you passed, but because you're not allowed to retest until you meet whatever criteria your state requires (refresher, waiting period, or some other requirement).

I've heard of people doing the PVT after a couple prior failures and being elated to get the desirable 'pop up'... then, after a few days of partying and posting their good news all over Facebook, they learn that they didn't pass, after all. That would be the worst heartbreak of all.

I'm not trying to be pessimistic, or crush your hopes, I'm simply warning you that it is possible that you could be tempted to do the (very unofficial) PVT and it could be wrong. Don't even do it! Stay away from your computer, go visit your grandmother for a few days, or go camping in the woods... somewhere with no internet access! Don't torture yourself!

And, the number of questions is no indication that you passed or failed. As you hover in that gray area, you don't have a good enough score to pass, nor a bad enough score to fail. Imagine a graph chart where the line is constantly in the middle of the chart, it goes up, then it goes down, back up, then back down, but never strays too far from the midline. This area is not passing or failing. So, you get more and more questions of varying difficulty to get you firmly in either the upper third of the graph (passing) or in the lower third of the graph (failing). Unless you have a good sense for how certain (or baffled) you were by the questions, you don't have a sense of whether you passed or not.

@Patti_RN - Thanks for the info!! I have yet to do the pearson vue trick and I don't plan to so waiting for the results to come in the mail it is. =) Although, I DO have one question. Is it true that 30 of the questions are not accounted for?

No, please don't do that trick! Now that I told you that it might not work, you won't trust the results, either way (which you really shouldn't trust. I've heard of people thinking the failed and finding out they passed and visa versa).

As far as the 30 questions, no one seems to know that for sure, except those set up the test. Actually, I've never heard 30-- I've heard 10 or 15 are experimental questions. And, those experimental questions are given at the end of the test, after the test-taker has passed or failed. When I took the NCLEX, I got to question number 60 and it was a really screwy question; same for the rest all the way to number 75. They were worded differently, had different answer choices, and were obviously experimental questions. So, I knew that it was going to turn off at 75--which it did. But, the number of questions you get is not an indicator of how well you did. You can take 75 and fail, you can get 200 and pass, or 230 and fail.

@Patti_RN - You are too funny! :D I'm not going to do the pearson vue trick. I'll just wait for the official results to come in the mail. In the meantime, this anxiety is killing me! Some of my friends say getting up to 205 isn't a bad thing. It means that the computer can't pinpoint what my weakness is and that if I was really doing horrible, the computer would have shut off before I got to 205. I just don't feel too confident at this very moment because there were sooo many meds that I didn't know... =/

Hello Nurses!!! I AM a graduate from lpn school in 2010 and I took my nclex 3 times in jersey and failed. This time I want to take it in California because I heard is easy, is that true?

The NCLEX is the same test everywhere whether you take the test in NJ or CA or IL or overseas in the Philippines or Australia It is an urban legend that the test is easier in different states. Itis a computer adaptive test you won't get the same test twice.

Since you failed 3 times with NJ you need to take an approved course per NJBoN regulations before you can sit for the exam again. This may be more beneficial to have a formal review of the material rather than applying to another state

Thanks a lot but I'm trying to avoid the review because they are too expensive.

That is entirely up to you but paying $200 per test plus application fees each time to test can also get expensive. Have you tried asking your school of nursing for assistance and/or guidance? I know most BoN's specifically ask whether you have previously taken the NCLEX and how many times (and they do have access to know your previous attempts and results) so it might not be beneficial to try and apply for a license in another state. You need to determine the best course of action for you to pass the NCLEX and subsequently obtain a license. Have you tried bringing your candidate test reports back to your SoN so they may be able to help you figure out a course of action for success...as they want all their graduates to pass the NCLEX and become licensed.

I know you said the anxiety is killing you and want to wait for the official results. you prepared well for the exam this time around. I learned to never create things that don't even exist, that will cause more anxiety.
