Thanks for responding! No classes this fall - I couldn't get all my paperwork into admissions by the deadline (was waiting on some stuff from Germany). But yes, I'm hoping to be a 2nd degree student for winter term- am still waiting to hear from GVSU Admissions. As for classes, I'm not sure what to start with. Am wondering if I should retake basic biology & chem in order to understand microbiology and organic/biochem. Don't really want to add more time onto my program, but it's been 20 years since I took those classes and my memory is fuzzy, to say the least. Also, is microbiology difficult? How about genetics? Or statistics? Have you taken any of the classes online, and if so, what are they like? Do you have any other words of advice for a pre-newbie?

I didn't take micro or stats at GVSU, I took them a few years ago at a different school. Micro is difficult, but you'll learn a lot. Stats I was always good at, but everyone seems to have a different opinion about that subject. Genetics I enjoyed, but again, a little difficult. GVSU has very few classes online. I took writing 305 online and NUR 220 online and I would recommend both to be taken online. I don't know if you still need to take those classes or not. Good luck! Enjoy! And don't fall behind!

Hi Jen - yes GVSU people do read this site. I am an ex-student and current clinical instructor of GVSU. Maybe I'll see you some day! Todd

I'm new to this web site, was browsing about and saw your thread.

My wife Amy is @ GVSU finishing her BSN and will graduate in April 05!

Small world. :)

I start my BSN this fall, not at GVSU though :p

So where are you going? What clinical course does your wife have to take yet??

My wife and I are switching careers in our thirties, but who would have guessed it would put us both in the same field :blushkiss

I'll be attending Reformed Bible College for the three year pre-nursing program with heavy emphasis on theology and missions. I'll then transfer to Calvin College for the final 2 years of the nursing major (as per the collaborative agreement between the two schools). The end result (Lord willing ) will be a BSN from Calvin with a minor in bible & theology. Long road to hoe...? Yep, but it equips me in the way I would like to serve. besides, who wants to wait 4-1/2 to 5 years just to get into the ADN at GRCC? I'll be done, and have the BSN to (maybe?) eventually use my managment experience.

I have nothing against GVSU or its teaching, but that said, they will have had plenty of our money with this degree, as it will be my wifes second B.S. from Grand Valley. :stone

The wife is currently doing a Community Health preceptorship with GR public schools, and has PACU at Butterworth next. then done!!!

Ahh! Then I know your wife. I sit next to her in class! She and I have had quite a few clinicals together! Ya'll have a 6-7 year-old little girl and a baby girl, right? Small world! Good luck to you both!

Hey!

I graduate 04/05. I do not work and probably won't work until I graduate. I have two small children and a husband with a very busy schedule so working just isn't really an option for me right now. I am not sure which hospital I'd like to work at yet. I did my OB rotation at Butterworth which I loved. I've always wanted to be an OB nurse, but I know I may change my mind once I've completed my future rotations. I've heard Metro was a great hospital to work at so I'm looking there also. So, what is the career change you'd like to make?

My name is SSgt Jason Bernstein. I'm the nurse recruiter for the US Air Force. I noticed you were interested in OB. Let me know if you would be interested in hearing about how you could an OB nurse in the Air Force. We are currently offering a $15,000 sign-on-bonus. [email protected] :)

That's ok I thought it was a little weird that you weren't sure what it was! So far I like it...I haven't been there long enough to get to really know the good and the bad of it yet but so far all the nurses seem nice so that's good and it is interesting! We will be in rotation there till the 9th of June so maybe I'll see you sometime! :nurse:
