Hi, I go to gvsu! I graduate with my BSN 4/04. I have been a RN at DeVos Children's for 15 years. I plan on making a career change. How about you?
Hey!
I graduate 04/05. I do not work and probably won't work until I graduate. I have two small children and a husband with a very busy schedule so working just isn't really an option for me right now. I am not sure which hospital I'd like to work at yet. I did my OB rotation at Butterworth which I loved. I've always wanted to be an OB nurse, but I know I may change my mind once I've completed my future rotations. I've heard Metro was a great hospital to work at so I'm looking there also. So, what is the career change you'd like to make?

Hey Kevin! I just wanted to tell you that I'm originally from Sterling Heights also. I've probably had you in a couple classes as I was originally supposed to be in your class. I had a few life challenges that have caused me to slow down my progress. I won't graduate now until 04/05.
Where in Sterling Heights did you live? I live off Scheonner between 14 and 15 mile.
17 1/2 and Ryan. So did you got to Sterling? I graduated in 91 though so obviously we didn't go to school together. I was over there last week, they sure added on to the school. Where does everyone park?? Oh well, like I should talk now - with our parking situation at GVSU - having to take the bus to the CHS building is the worst! Yesterday there were 3 drunk older guys drinking hard liquor by the bus stop at DASH 9. Makes me feel really safe - NOT! :uhoh21:
See ya!

Hello everyone,
I actually do not go to KSON, but I am looking into to complete by BSN/MSN. I am currently a student at Lansing Community College. One of my lab instructors is completing her master's there. Anyway, in short, want to get other student's input on the school and progam (s).

Am planning to start prenursing reqs at GVSU this winter...I am 41, going for my second degree, have 4 kids (ages 13 thru 5) and a supportive (but busy) husband. Am looking into a part-time nursing assistant's position while I wait for winter semester to begin and to get my feet wet. My first degree was in Broadcasting/Journalism/German, so not much science. And - how hard is the chem??????
Hi there. I'm thinking since you are a second degree student you may be able to take the organic chem/bio chem class. I don't believe you need to take some of the labs also.
For me, Biochem was the most difficult class I've ever taken. Before this class, Chem was always one of my favorite subjects. Don't let it scare you though. Some people didn't find it at difficult as I did. Good luck! What classes will you be taking this fall?
Thanks for responding! No classes this fall - I couldn't get all my paperwork into admissions by the deadline (was waiting on some stuff from Germany). But yes, I'm hoping to be a 2nd degree student for winter term- am still waiting to hear from GVSU Admissions. As for classes, I'm not sure what to start with. Am wondering if I should retake basic biology & chem in order to understand microbiology and organic/biochem. Don't really want to add more time onto my program, but it's been 20 years since I took those classes and my memory is fuzzy, to say the least. Also, is microbiology difficult? How about genetics? Or statistics? Have you taken any of the classes online, and if so, what are they like? Do you have any other words of advice for a pre-newbie?
Bio-chem was bad for me too. I took it twice. There is alot of formula memorization. You CANNOT get behind. I had a difficult period in my life at that time and got behind. It was all over. You need a clear mind and stick with those formulas. I am beginning the MSN/MBA program at Grand Valley in two weeks. Just finished my BSN at GVSU in April. I got my ADN and LPN at Muskegon Community College. Good luck to you.
