HFCC Winter 2017

Published

Hey everyone. I just applied to the HFCC program for Winter 2017 and thought I would start a thread to see if anyone else will be applying too. I am pretty nervous and would like to get some insight as to how many points you had when you got accepted.

Thanks!

I am going insane with anticipation. I picked up my uniform from Work n' Gear a few days ago. Anybody else try it on and get all giddy? Everybody have their Stethoscope and Penlight? I dont even know what to do with myself. Im like a kid waiting till Christmas.

I still have to pick up my uniform and get books. I have a old stethoscope I used for my CNA class but I asked for a better one for Christmas. Just waiting on my financial aid since they messed something up with it.

They are constantly making errors with Financial aid

I can tell.. Thank god I called because they had the wrong social on my file.. not sure how that happened since I have mine memorized. I need to go update it tomorrow amongst all the other things I need to pay for tomorrow LOL!

When did you guys order your uniforms? I ordered them on the last day lol (23rd) and still no call to pick them up yet.

I ordered mine on the 21st I believe and still haven't gotten a call yet either. I'm sure it will be fine! They said as long as we had it done by that day, then we'd be good

I ordered mine the day after they announced the place to get them, I received it last week.

You guys realize we have 4 1/2 weeks until we start???

Yeahh its pretty exciting! Time is flying by. Tomorrow Im going in for the BLS training. Did tou do the ACEMAP??

So I have a question. What are you guys going to do for books? Are you going to buy the one they showed at the orientation? I feel like I'll have a hard time studying through a textbook on the computer but at the same time, I dont know if I'll need to use the books at school and I don't want to be carrying them around.

Hawrsh:

Yeah already did acemapp. It took forever for them to approve the docs. I was really nervous!

As far as the books go yes, I'm going to just but the package. They made it seem like it was optional, but then as the presentation went on they revealed that the professors would be giving us assignments through the online system... Which means it's actually mandatory. It was all quite the scam. I am really unhappy that they did that, but whatever. I'm going to pony up and just pay for them.

UM GUYS... I just went to the bookstore to grab the books and THERE IS YET ANOTHER HIDDEN COST THEY DID NOT TELL US ABOUT!!!

There is a MANDATORY $110 "nursing kit" Right next to the Elsevier package that they sell. The person at the book store told me that its mandatory, its not there until January but it looks like its full of gloves, syringes and other stuff. IM LIVID. On top of the $350 "excess contact hours" fee, the $611 "HESI Test Package" fee, the $745 books, the $30 drug test fee, the $50 HESI entrance exam fee, the $50 ACEMAPP fee and now this, I am now in debt. Im grateful to have been allowed entrance into this program, and Im eager to begin, but I cant help feel like this is all a bit exclusionary/predatory. Im really raising my eyebrows on this one. They assured us at Orientation that the book package would be all we would have to purchase at the beginning of the semester. Now here we are with yet another thing. We have all spent about $2k on stuff that isn't even CLASSES yet.

Look I know its an investment and its all going to pay off but I cant help think about the people who cant afford to do this stuff, or who dont have family to help them. How are they supposed to get through school and improve their lives if they cant even afford to start the first semester?
