HFCC Nursing Program waitlist????

Published

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else out there is on the waitlist for the HFCC Nursing Program and when you think you'll be called. I went on the waitlist back in December 07 and was told I'd more than likely be called for winter 09 but I've had other students tell me they were called sooner than anticipated.:anbd:

yep they are. I took those already. I am in the last A&P and pharmacology this semester,I am taking psych 253 in the summer. And then I am working on classes for my BA while waiting.

I took Medical term. also while waiting so I didn't have to learn that along with everything else.

I heard that some people take Medical Terminology even though it's not required. (I don't understand why it's not part of the program!!) I was thinking of taking it too because I don't know how else I'd learn all of the terms and shorthand!

I am on the waitlist now and I will have all my classes needed before the fall. then I will relax a bit while waiting by taking classes that look fun. I am also taking the patho class this spring so I will have that knowledge before I start. I also bought a fluid & electrolytes made easy book and I am studying it as I move through anatomy. I am hoping this will help make the nursing info stick a bit better.

Smart, smart girl. :yeah: Don't sell that Patho book at the end of class, either. You'll need it for your patho papers :typing required in 155 (MedSurg) :barf1: and 221/222 (MedSurg II).

For another poster, medical terminology is covered in Nursing 126. You'll receive a thick packet of medical terminology broken down into 6 portions. Each portion will be part of the content for every test.

For anybody else, visit the hfcc website and pull down the Nursing program requirements. It shows you exactly what classes will take place in which semester.

Thanks MySimplePlan. I was hoping I was on the right track. I definately want to be ahead of the game and not trying to play catch up.

Hi HFCC student on the waiting list,

I received my letter in FEB/2008, went to the orientation session on March 14, 2008. The number of students that attended the 1st pick were just 35 student. They were just the fist 35 student on the 1st pick. I was told they will be mailing more letter soon. But I need to tell you that their was some student who haven't completed their BIO 234 at all. And some decline enrollment last year, but still received a letter again for enrollment this year.

Also, I received a letter from "Henry Ford Health System(HFHS) to enroll in the accelerated (16 months) program for this May, due to open spots. But if accepted you have to work 3 years for your tuition for them. I decline on that offer, because you have to have some money up front. Wish I didn't have a penny. My hope is to pay for my summer class that I already register for, and hope again that I get a scholarship this fall/2008. :bowingpur

when did you get put on the wait list?

what is the accelerated program? i have heard quite a few hfcc students talking about it, but i have never heard any details.... :heartbeat

if you are an employee of the henry ford health system, you can do an 18 month accelerated program. i believe you are paid a monthly stipend as well. instead of having a summer break, you go right thru. it may be open to non-employees if the enrollment is down. contact the nurse recruiter and get the details.

That program also pays for your books and tuition. Your clinicals and lectures take place at Henry Ford Hospital and One Ford Place, the teaching facility of HFH - Main.

Pros - it's free!! Hey!!

Cons - It's grueling!! No breaks!! But it's free!!! Hey!!

Hmm.. now I just need to figure out how to get a job at Henry Ford Hospital without experience!!

You could always get your Hep B shot. That takes 5 months. I really can't think of anything else unless you plan on getting your Bachelors. If so, you could take microbiology and get it out of the way. You could always pick up an NCLEX review book and go thru that in your down time.

Hi,

I am currently at HFCC trying to get done with my pre-reqs so I can put my name on the waitlist. I still have Eng 132, Bio 131 and the NET (taking 6/9) left I think, and THEN I will be qualified for the waitlist.

HFCC told me (in fact, I think it was Michelle Zeid), that once placed on the list you have 6-18 mos. She said very rarely do they have anyone any longer than a year and a half. Which is unlike Washtenaw Community College. Be VERY thankful you are not on their list.... it's 3-4yrs currently!!!! Who can wait that long? Especially when you could go to Eastern Michigan and get your BSN in 4yrs, instead of waiting on a list to get your ADN???

Does anyone have any tips for me????? I am still at the very beginning stages, and I am doing my best to make sure I am preparing for my wait. I am so afraid I will forget to do something or be unaware of something and end up having a longer than necessary wait!! I plan on taking all of my co-req classes while waiting... Soc 131, Anatomy, etc. So that way when I am off the waitlist I will only have my nursing classes and clinicals.

Good luck to everyone waiting for their letter!! I wish I could just get my name on that stupid list!!!

any advice on how to get a job at a hospital without experience? haha.. but seriously, i really want to get in and get some experience and a feel for the environment, etc. also, i have heard about tuition reimbursement and the accelerated program, etc. it just seems as though working at a hospital while waiting to get in and through the program would be extrememly beneficial.

i have been checking all of the local hospital job sites, and so far i am not qualified for anything!! there seem to be a lot of jobs that require at least 1-yr in a hospital or medical setting, which i don't have... or a cna... or a med asst... etc. i was hoping to find something like a patient transporter or some type of clerical/scheduling position, but i am not seeing anything like that. and the few i have seen require experience in their scheduling software, etc.

i am becoming so frusterated!! any ideas? :heartbeat
