1. Where are many of you going to work?

2. When do most of you start?

3. Were the choices of employment as good as you hoped they would be?

4. Plans for your first payday as a nurse?:D :wink2:

lilred,

I am sure you will be very glad you chose Ruby. Med/surg is always a good start too.

I know the feeling about that pay check, it sounds so good when they name a figure that sounds so large, but when reality hits(after taxes, insurance, and misc.) it is really small. I am sure you will have much to post about in the coming weeks, so please let us know how it goes with you. Blessings and good luck.

Specializes in MICU.

I just accepted a job in the MICU at Memorial today! I'm really looking forward to it. Now that CAMC is gonna be paying for it I can take the Kaplan course. Otherwise it would've been around $500. That makes me feel a little more confident about taking the NCLEX.

yogi,

I have heard mixed reviews about Kaplan. We took the review at Mtn. State given by Jessica Sharpe. I can honestly say that so much of what she taught was on our test.

Everyone one who took it passed and felt the money well spent. I wish you luck in the new job.

Specializes in Rodeo Nursing (Neuro).

Welcome aboard, albeit belatedly, MrBill and lilred.

At the risk of being maudlin, I can honestly say, you could do worse. Anyway, best of luck in your new positions. And good luck--maybe just not quite the best--to you GNs starting at other facilities:wink2: !

Specializes in ICU, Home Health Care, End of Life, LTC.

Update: I did my share day in ICU Thursday and I think it went pretty well. I met with the manager and she said that she would talk to the school of nursing and let them know she would provide a preceptor in the unit for my leadership rotation over the summer!!! It was a little intimidating but the nurse I shadowed was great, very reassuring. She was really competent and relaxed. Confident without being cocky gave me something to aspire to. I like the idea of two patients right in front of you at all times that you are keeping alive. The pts the nurse had that day were low acuity and I am still nervous about the complexity, but I have critical care theory and leadership clinical this summer, then there is a 16 week orientation. I am nervously looking forward and anxiously awaiting to hear....

Thanks for all the support here.

Gnite

I know a HN from Thomas, she left CAMC to go there a few years ago, she loves it.

I know that I interviewed at Thomas a few years ago and they were going to work a schedule out for me so that I would not have to commute as much (I lived in Huntington) and would even allow me to "camp out overnight" between my shifts. I thought that was pretty good of them to do that. When I move back to the area, (if I don't stay in the VA system) I will definately talk with them again!!

I got the call today!!!

I received a job offer today! I will be starting one month after I graduate in the MICU/SICU. I am currently there doing my senior leadership rotation and I love it. It is scary, confusing and hard work but everyone there is supportive, knowledgeable and very helpful. Gotta love the night shift.

Whew what a load of my mind, now just gotta make it through this summer semester and pass the NCLEX and I am gravy.

You will do great I'm sure. It's great that the staff is supportive, knowledgeable and helpful! That really means a lot when you are still "wet behind the ears". I will never forget the nurses who helped me learn the ropes when I graduated. Good Luck!:yeah:

Mr Bill,

Best of luck. I know after all the hard work you have put in you will obtain that prize. Enjoy the new job and all the new things you will learn. Once again, congrats and blessings to you.

Specializes in MICU.

hey bill, which hospital are you at?

Specializes in ICU, Home Health Care, End of Life, LTC.

I am at Ruby, and I already love it. I am doing my senior leadership clinicals in the SICU/MICU where I will be working. So far getting along great with everyone and loving the night shift. Made a world class mistake today and I could tell ppl were trying to express concern and explain importance w/o screaming, "*** RU A MORON???". Luck was on my side and I didn't kill the pt so all's well that ends well I suppose, still got to figure out what the H I was thinking...

Specializes in Orthopedic, Pain Management, Psych, Family.

I graduated in June, and just passed my boards. However finding a job as an LPN isn't as easy as I thought it would be. I applied to Thomas without hearing from them as of yet. Anyone know of any place hiring LPN's?
