[color=dimgray]some of you might know me from other posts. i'd like to get some feedback on what i'm doing wrong. ok, here's the issue: i took the boards recently in january and failed for the second time using kaplans 2007 book that i got from the complete reveiw course. i know this book by heart, and i mean by heart..but i know i could use some touch up on a few areas since it's been a month and 2 weeks. what would you guys suggest as preparation? would you master knowledge above taking the practice questions more? or would you practice on q and a and rationales more rather than focusing on knowledge? i'm one that just doesn't feel confident in my nursing content, so i've always been trying to master knowledge and lacking on practicing q and a. what's funny is the areas that i passed this time are the subjects that i skimmed through and tried to understand..like pharmacology, i didn't memorize but to my surprize i actually passed it this time. any suggestions? oh and by the way i purchased saunders 4th edition book yesterday and i'm starting from scratch again. learning her methods and reading her content book. i don't know if this is a good idea, but i guess kaplan just isn't working for me..and i'm hoping that suzanne's plan will work since i've been hearing alot of good feedback about it. well anyways, thank you for reading. feedback is greatly appreciated. i look forward to your responses. :typing

I noticed you said that you knew that book by heart. Do you think that the problem lies in your anxiety level and not on your knowledge? Many people do not pass due to sheer nerves. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. If that is part of the problem, maybe try to find something calming that you know will work to stabilize those nerves. I know that when I get extremely nervous, I tend to block things out. Maybe that has something to do with it. Also, like gwafuh said, try just reading the book first, but this time, as you read it, try to come up with questions of your own to try to visualize a particular event with a patient, and then doing the CD questions. They're very helpful and coming up with little makeshift case studies in your mind might help with your critical thinking and your application process. If not, then try Saunders. It's easy to understand and the rationales are very good as well. I wish you good luck, and don't give up! You CAN do this!! :)
