HESI guide Vs. Kaplan guide

Published

I'm a nursing major at a community college in Georgia, I'm applying to different schools this fall to start the program(hopefully) next fall. I have to take the HESI, and I was wondering if anyone found the HESI guide better than the one published by Kaplan.

Any tips on how to study for the HESI?

Hello Puzzled, although I am knew to allnurses.com, I have done plenty of "research" and asked many thousand questions:lol2:. I have always heard from nurses, that if you pass the HESI (to graduate nursing school), that the NCLEX (for the state) is a piece of cake (compared to the HESI). A few nurses have even said that Kaplan's material/books have helped them a lot along with the HESI; to prepare for the NCLEX-RN. I am in not in nursing school yet, but I know that many Chicago colleges are using the HESI. By the way, when you go to the HESI website, you'll see that there will be an updated/advanced version coming out -if I am not mistaken, it is already out. Just type "HESI" or "HESI book" in your search engine and you'll see the link. Good luck!

The Hesi entrance exam is much different than the hesi exit exam. If you are taking the entrance exam the hesi study guide is better. I have both and the kaplan has tons of info you don't need to know for the hesi entrance exam.

Hi there, JessiBoopCNA! The poster is asking about the HESI A2 Entrance exam that many nursing schools use as part of their admissions process. The HESI *exit* exam is, as you say, really hard. But by then, you've finished all your nursing coursework.

My 2 cents: stick with the HESI A2 (Admission Assessment) study guide and use it as a guide to what you should study. The Kaplan study guide has a lot of material you don't need for the HESI A2, including math that is harder than what is actually on the HESI A2. But if you use the HESI A2 guide, you can still study the Kaplan book for practice, skipping the stuff you don't need, or looking at it as practice test-taking skills.

I agree, I have both as well and I found the HESI to be a much more valuable resource. There were no surprises, if it was on the test it was in the SG. I would HIGHLY recommend getting the HESI SG. It's pretty small, but very succinct.

I heard that the HESI book is better than the Kaplan guide. Kaplan is more geared towards NCLEX. Slightly different types of questions.
