HESI entry, I need help , I am going crazy.

Published

I study every day for this test and I am not sure if I am ready for it. I would like to know if anybody took this exam and how was it. I have problems with Reading and Comprehension section. Is there anyone who can give me some details about this reading section, how long are, how hard is to read it, what it is asked to know in the paragraphs.

Please help me, I am having this exam at the end of this month.:crying2:

Corina, I'm pretty sure that every HESI exam is different. You will have a different one from the person right next to you. Some sections are harder than others, but it varies test by test. I would suggest you get a HESI study guide book. I got one before I took the test. It's HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review by Evolve.. it has a reading and comprehension section, with things to read, and questions to answer about it-- for practice. I definitely suggest getting that to practice. Also, don't worry too much about that one section, as there are a ton of different sections on the test. I totally bombed my Biology section, but did great in all the others-- and ended up with a good score on the test, and got into the nursing school I applied for. Good luck!

I wouldn't stress too much either. I have the same book by Evolve and there was not a whole lot on the Reading Comp. part of it. The best advice I could give you is to find something on Google that would actually test your critical thinking skills, as that is what that portion of the test really deals with. It had questions on it such as " was the author for or against the subject?" It was not hard at all, but if you need to hone your critical thinking skills, I do just that.

Hope this helps! :D

Hi everybody, I did get the Evolve Admission Assesment Exam Review, but the reading section is so limited and I just ordered the HESI A2 Secrets and I do not know how much that will help also. I practicaly did so many tests on the internet, from Learning Express library, and also all study guides I could put my hand on from Barns and Noble and Chicago public library that I got to be sick. Is there something else I can do to improve my reading skills?

Thanks.

Corina

Let me tell you about the reading comprehension on the entrance exam. There are 5-6 different articles to read, each of which are 2-4 small paragraphs long. Not much to read right?? For each article, there are about 6-8 questions involving everything from literal meaning of certain words to implied overall subject of the article. It's NOTHING to stress about! The test isn't super difficult in any way, you just need a few good test taking skills and some confidence. A little piece of advice about this section of the test that you can also carry on to other parts of the test: since it's multiple choice use your skills of deduction! There will almost always be one answer that you KNOW isn't correct. Don't pick that answer and you have a better chance of getting the correct one. There will almost always be two answers that are similar and you'll think either one could be correct. Trust your gut. Changing answers from your first instinct will cause many missed answers. Most of all.... stop stressing :) The more you stress the less you'll be able to focus. I realize how important this test is, but I think you'll be surprised at how easy it actually is. So RELAX! And good luck!!

Go to the book store in your area..and buy the HESI book it's about 15 dollarsand it's very helpful...also try amazon it may be cheaper

Thanks Nursing-mom, for the encouragement, but the difficulty for me is that English is not my primary language that is why I am so scared. I have 4.0 GPA and I do not understand why this English comprehension it is so hard for me. Anyway, I took a lot of tests and this should be no different than the ones I already took. I hope I will pass.

I got all the books (HESI) and I am going over and over many times. I am a visual person so if I read the paragraph two times I remember all about it and the answers, this makes it harder cause I can't test myself. This leads me to keep looking for new tests. Any advice where I could get some new paragraphs or tests where I could do some main idea , inferences, purpose......

Thanks.

I'm taking the test on the 7th of May..I'm a bit nervous about the math section, but I found online a study guide of sorts..so I'm just going to go through it over & over & over until I get it. :D I'm not so much worried about reading comprehension, but a tad bit on the science (although it should help I had anatamy 1&2 last fall and have a couple years of college under my belt)

About how long does it take usually to complete the test? Are calculators allowed? It's on the computer, correct?

HI!! which test u are taking HESI or TEAS??? calculators are not allowed I herd and yeah it is on computer but I think it depends on the place you are taking it.

can you link the study guide plz

Well the calculatores are avalible, plus math it is so simple. I was born in Europe so the metric sistem is what we used howerer it will be to easy you will see. Reading makes me fill scared. I took english 101 and critical reading and got only A's in all my clases but still I feel like something is missing from my ability to fully understand what I am reading.

I wish you all the best.

Can you tell me how it went the test/after you take it on the 7 nt of May. Please.

I live in NJ ...here we are not allowed to use calculators on the test :crying2:
