Broward College's unrealistic expectation

Nursing Students HESI

Published

On numerous occasions BC has changed their nursing admission requirements from adding courses, dropping courses, replacing one course for another; and changing their HESI requirements from retaking it until you receive your desired competitive score with no cut off amounts (as long as you pay the fee), to taking it once every 6 months, and NOW taking it twice every TWO YEARS! For example, BC requires 5 sections to be taken, 4 of the sections you need an 80% and the other an 85%. Let say you pass 4 sections with an 80% and the other section you made an 83%, then you will have one more time to retake that section again. Let say you retook it and scored an 84%, that means you failed and you will not be able to take the exam after two years. Ivy league schools and top nursing schools don't even require a policy like BC...it just don't make no sense whatsoever. Although there are many other options when it comes to nursing school, but BC's policy (IMHO) is pathetic.

Granted their trying to 'weed-out' people who they assume won't make it. You can't determine someones success based off of an admission assessment, but the actual nursing core itself.

What's your thought? I'm open to hear all.

I Got accepted to the program Fall 2012 the Requirements for BC have become ridiculous. When I took the Hesi we were able to take it as much as needed. It is crazy how much they want to "weed out" the weak.BC has very High NCLEX scores and It is a very Affordable Program but its just crazy.Nursing is hard but they make it Extremely Hard. I failed Nursing Process 1 and Never returned One Program does NOT make your destiny.

I heard it was one chance and if you dont do well you can take version 2 again in 6 months. The test is basic knowledge. FAU takes the TEAS V but they do allow you to take it as much as needed. The highest score is counted not the most recent. I was told most students score in the high 90's. I guess I have to disagree and say I do believe it helps determine if a student is ready to be in the program. I dont agree with the limits they place on their program and I do believe they make it seem impossible to get in. I think you should be able to pass this test. It is a much cheaper option but the way they do admissions seems to scare people off...I hear Palm Beach CC is the same.

As far as classes changing...all the schools have changes. I think they are really similar to other area schools. Most do require chemistry, ant 1 & 2 with labs, micro with lab and alg. Then the BSN programs add in their classes but almost all are the same except Barry has a religion class and FIU has an FIU specific class.

I can agree to a certain extent...the point of the thread was to address the limitations and the fear that it inflicts of retaking the exam one more time to realize that one may have to wait 2 year to try again. That's why it's important to have a plan B of other schools just in case. Thanks for the thought.
