Hey everyone,I am taking the HESI A2 exam for the first time tomorrow. I'm trying to get accepted into the RN program at my community college. My school only requires the HESI sections: Math, Vocabulary, Grammar, and Reading Comprehension. I have been studying the HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review book 4th edition by Elsevier and using the premium version of the Pocket Prep app to prepare for the exam. I have only been studying on and off for the past three weeks. Any last minute tips? I am so nervous! I have to get at least an 85% on 3 sections and can get an 80% on a 4th section. Thanks everyone ?

I haven’t taken it, just the TEAS. But am looking at a program that requires it.
How was it? Did you score well enough?
I actually got a fantastic score. 98% in Math and Vocab, 94% in grammar and then 90% in Reading Comp. I spent the least amount of time reviewing the reading section while because I read for fun a lot. I wish I would have reviewed it slightly more. I only needed an 85% on three sections and an 80% on a 4th. My test overall was a 95%.

Wow! You go! Congratulations!
The test wasn't extremely hard. I heard that the TEAs are much harder. Make sure for math you practice all types of fractions, including mixed fractions, ratios, and conversions between the metric system. The vocabulary is very similar to the HESI A2 study guide. Just buy the study guide and I would download and purchuse the pocket app for the HESI in the app store, super helpful and convenient for studying on the go. The study guide that you get for about $40 is actually made by the people who create the exam. Good luck! ❤

Hey there,
Quick question: On the metric system conversions, do they actually give you some equivalents or do you just have to already know/memorize these?
For example:
A chocolate bar weighs 12 ounces. What is its weight in grams?
You're given:
16 oz = 1 lb1 kg = 2.2 lbs1000 g = 1 kg Then you solve.

X g= 12oz x 1lb/16oz x 1kg/2.2lbs x 1000g/1kg
use the relationships through dimensional analysis. If you’ve had chem I, it’s the technique often used to make these conversions.
Start with what you need to know = the simplest information you know. Th n line up the units so they cancel out. Oz divided by oz is nothing, lbs/lbs, kg/kg. You are left with grams, so you can be sure it’s set up right.
also... 12oz is 3/4 of a pound... and a pound is ~500 grams... if you knew that you can probably guess at the answer since they will likely be wildly different. I took my teas las week and it did not give me area for a cylinder. So those types of things might be helpful to know.
AnaRho,
Hi. I wasn't asking how to do this equation as I've already done chemistry and stoichiometry was my favorite thing to do.
I was asking LMoore13 if on the HESI A2, do they actually provide the "given" equivalents for you to do the actual dimensional analysis, or do you have to have all the metric equivalents already memorized.
Ohhh I see! Sorry about that.
You have to memorize them. You will need to know how many ounces are in a cup, how many ounces and quarts in a gallon, how many cups are in a quart, how many quarts are in a pint, how many ml in an ounce, how many feet/yards is in a mile, how many cm are in an inch. That's all I can think of. They are actually pretty easy to memorize, I was surprised, but you will need to memorize them. You will get a question like... How many ounces is in 3/4 of a quart... Well there are 4 cups per quart so 3 cups times 8 ounces gives you 24 ounces in 3/4 of a quart. Those are the types of questions you will get. Like I said, just get the HESI A2 study book, when you get the book it also has sample practice online tests through the elviser website.. who again creates the exam. Fractions were honestly like 3/4 of the math portion. I did hear that there are lime 4 different version of the exam and it is just random which one you get.
LMoore13,
Thanks so much! This is good information to know so I can start re-memorizing the basic ones. This helps!
Congrats on your scores!

You have to memorize the metric system and know how to set them up and solve the problem. I took my Hesi early June and had a few metric system problems. There were a lot of word problem and problems with decimals on my test so make sure you know how to do both well. Make sure you know what your school wants you to know. For example, I didn't need chemistry, physics or biology. You need to find out if there is critical thinking on your test. I didn't know it was on my nursing exam and didn't prepare for it. I pray about this part of the test and ended up with 85% on it. My test was four hours long. I had 30 anatomy questions, 55 math questions, around 45 critical thinking questions, and 50 reading questions. If you don't feel prepared, don't take it. I knew I got only two chances to pass the test, so I didn't take it until I felt ready. Good luck, lovely.
