HESI A2 for Maricopa Community Colleges???

U.S.A. Arizona

Hey so I took the NET and I like totally bombed the test as far as the math part goes. I ran out of time in the math portion of the test. I was so mad and frustrated that I could have cried. So the procter tells me that I can retake the test in 60 days and I said that I was told that Maricopa will be discontinuing the NET and going with the HESI A2 for the entrance exam into school. So I know this to be true, but my question is if anybody knows what section of the HESI A2 is going to be required to have a passing score. Is it just the reading and vocaburlary and math or is it the sciences too that we will have to pass also? Please somebody let me know. Thankyou

Thanks for letting me know, cause I have to fly from Chicago to get it.

I just took the HESI A2 entrance exam last week. I haven't been in college for nine years and I didn't study for one single second for it. I got an average score of 92.2%. It was very very easy. Seriously. It's very basic math like ratios and percentages as well as fractional math.

Wow! Thanks for the info! I have been in school for what feels like eternity so I should be okay!:lol2:

Hi Jill2shy,

I would like more information about reading and comprehension section also about grammar and vocab, please if it is possible and you remember anything can you tell me at what to expect. I would appreciate.

Jill2shay did you have enough time for each section?

I am really worried and I would like to know.

I had more than enough time for each section. They said the average was 2.5 hours and you have up to 3.5 hours. I finished the entire test in less than 1.5 hours. All of the graded sections were comprised of about 50 or so questions. You click on a bubble next to the answer and hit the space bar to enter and move to the next question. You cannot go back and change an answer.

The reading section was comprised of reading a few paragraphs about a certain subject and then answering a series of questions. Some if the questions were simple true/false and some multiple choice asking you to draw a conclusion about the writer's purpose for writing the piece. Some of the questions have multiple answers that could be right, so I just went with my instinct.

The grammar section was mostly comprised of sentences and asking you to pick which one was NOT correct from a list of possible answers. Most will be obvious if English is your first language.

Most of the vocab questions would give a sentence and then ask you what a specific word means in that context. I think there were some questions about opposites as well. There were some medical terms as well, but most was pretty basic.

One thing that may help you in the math section would be memorizing conversions, like miles to km, etc. There were a few questions about American terms like cups to pints and things like that.

Thanks a lot, Jill2Shay!

It is really detailed info for me.

I'm not a native speaker of English and was worried about English section. Your answer gives me an idea how to prepare the test now.

Have a good day!

Hi Jill2Shay,

I would like to know what is the order of the exams (math, grammar....) also if is not to much can you tell me if you recall any details that were in the exams. I was studying the Evolve study guide ( are the vocab similar to the words that are on the list there) also, I am studying the "HESI A2 Secret," is the length of one passages as long as the ones in the study guide?

Did the study guide help you?

What are your recommendations for me, if you can give me some that could help me ( English is my second language).:crying2:

I appreciate your help

Thanks

You pick the order in which you want to do the sections. You select them individually from a list. I don't know anything about any study guides, as I said, I didn't study at all for it.

Most of the passages in the reading section were 3-5 short paragraphs.

As for details, I'm not really sure what you're asking. I don't remember any specific questions or anything like that.. I do remember there being a lot of fractions in the math section.. multiplication, division, addition, etc..

That helps me a lot. Thanks.

Jill2shay, I would like to ask you if there were any word problems in the math section?

Jill2shay, I would like to ask you if there were any word problems in the math section?

I'm sure ther questions are random for each person, but I did have a few, and they all had extraneous information to try to trip me up.. But still, it should be a breeze for anyone who has taken any kind of algebra class.
