Herzing University FNP

Hello,

I am interested in the FNP program. Can anyone give me insight about how you like the program? How the program works with your schedule? I am not really concerned about clinical because I have those set up.

Please just interested to know what you guys think?

So far, I like Herzing's FNP program and have not had any negative experiences. The instructors have been prompt to respond the few times I needed clarification on an assignment. Also, the clinical coordinator can provide you a list of clinical sites they have used in the past (if you request). Discussion posts are due on Wednesdays and assignments or quizzes are due on Sundays. There are not any mandatory log on times. Some courses do require group projects. As with most FNP programs, the biggest challenge is securing preceptors. Also, I like that Herzing is a non-profit university that has brick and mortar campuses as some employers are biased against colleges that are exclusively online and for-profit.

I am at Herzing with a year to go. I wholeheartedly endorse the entire program. The support staff, Meaghan, Dr. Ebert, Dr. Penick, many of the instructors and Julie Kusta. All angels in that place. Best decision so far. Much respect for the student centric view point. They all know how hard it is to do this and bend over backward for you every time I have had any issue. The work is busy and consistent. Its online so you learn what you want. But its organized and the support staff and clinicians are ALWAYS available. Much thanks to them.

@westinsouth @ERNurse-FutureNP Did Herzing help you secure clinical sites? Just wondering how helpful they actually are.

They helped as much as they could but ultimately, it is the student's responsibility to find clinical sites. I did sit out two very frustrating semesters while I pushed for contacts to be made with my school and clinical sites.

Okay. I can definitely understand your frustration with that. This has become a big concern of mine! Was there any tests or quizzes or just papers if you don’t mind me asking?

Thanks for replying too btw!

How far in advance do you have to apply?

Great school!Supportive staff. Passed boards first time! Good luck everyone!

I am looking at Herzing now. For most of the universities I've looked at, even a well-known brick and mortar with deep roots in FNP education in my town, you have to find your own preceptors and clinical sites. I have asked around if this area is saturated and people have said it is not. But I still am so concerned about finding preceptors and sites. Do you have any suggestions about how to find preceptors? I am an older student and I would be beyond discouraged sitting out two semesters. I'm sorry that happened to you.

Did you work while you were in school? Did it feel manageable? I was at US University and just withdrew. I'm frustrated having started and done a lot of work and not feeling it was a good fit. Starting from square one is a killer.

Thank you,

Linda

Hi Linda, I had a friend that went to the same school and like you transferred. But answer to your question yes I worked 24 hours and for last rotation(because I had 2) I went per diem. I had a baby in last semester as well so yes definitely doable!!!

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I can't reach anyone today and don't remember the tuition. I know there was a discount for a certain GPA I qualified for. I'm talking to Colorado Tech, too, but they have no graduated in their program yet which makes me nervous. I really appreciate your feedback.

Linda, I did the same explored many schools...Frontier, Rivier inNH, but a friend of mine recommended Herzing. Herzing does give $2000/semester scholarship.... No school is perfect and no matter which you choose, it’s all hard work! Good luck!
