Hello,

I am interested in the FNP program. Can anyone give me insight about how you like the program? How the program works with your schedule? I am not really concerned about clinical because I have those set up.

Please just interested to know what you guys think?

I am in Morningside College and it is a great program. For those of you that are looking for good program. The instructors are fantastic and very helpful.

Sorry for the lapse in responding. I just graduated Herzing. WRT to the clinical preceptors, I was given a list of over 100+ sits with 30 within my radius and realistically 10 doable with traffic and work. All office managers I contacted accepted my queries and welcomed me in except 1 for pediatrics. I did also ask my hospital education head for her help and she gave me 2 other sites that were available. The only caveat is the preceptors did charge a fee from $500 to $1000 each. I ended up choosing the sites from the Herzing list since I wanted to finish quick. The paper work and physical paperwork was all done online. It was as easy and the Tasha Hoople and Dr. Ebert made it simple. Even one of my preceptors was denied but Dr. E and T. Hoople rushed my secondary application and allowed me to finish on schedule. Herzing did all the heavy lifting. Truthfully, if you can't make a call and get a preceptorship opp. Write me and I will guide you how to do it. It is a learning curve but I luckily have a business and sales background.

Oh my gosh, that is such great news! I start March 2. My email address is LindaJCecere @gma.com. No spaces, of course. I'd love to stay in contact if you're ok with that. I can't send private messages here.

Thank you so much for this information!

Linda

Sure. I don't come here much but I am sure Herzing will guide u on everything. The student advisors are simply amazing. I had Meaghan G. #simplyamazing

Here are some #realworldtips that work well @Herzing. 1) Don't miss any deadlines. Canvass is buggy Always check. Mostly sun and wed until last week when it shifts to Tues. 2) check your *** weekly for all deadlines and grades. Especially at the end of the year. See above 3) Don't blow off any assignments bc of the fine print in some classes most assignments will be graded favorably for submitting based on rubrics AND some assignments misses will give you an incomplete. ie. redo the class. 4) The canvass system can be buggy. Always send an email inquiry for a time stamp so there is time stamp of the issue. 5) And always understand the teachers and faculty are usually offsite working and family too and have lives. They WANT YOU to pass. They do not want more work. They really care but they want to get in, grade, do their work and go back to their lives. Be respectful on email and don't blow a gasket when *** happens. ?

Just curious if you ended up attending here? I am researching programs and haven’t found much on Herzing.

Hello Alecia

I actually did end up going here. I am in my final semester.

Awesome. How has the experience been? Was finding Preceptor’s very challenging? How’s the online experience with this program?

Just FYI.... Herzing U. not accepting California students anymore.

Hi Linda,

I'm looking into an FNP program. I was looking at a DNP program initially because I feel the field will be headed that way in the future, but seems the MSN programs are more robust from BSN. Did you attend the program at Herzing? Was there a strong second option besides Herzing? If attending Herzing, how has your experience been so far? Details and long descriptive thoughts are always welcome :-) Thank you.

Hi,

I don't see your name or I would address you. In the end, I did not go with Herzing. I do believe it's a great program. I decided to save the money and go with USU. That said, like you, I believe we are headed in the direction of DNP requirements, at least eventually. I am going to continue to the DNP immediately after I finish the MSN FNP.

I had several acceptances to Universities and it was a really difficult decision. I had been accepted to Vanderbilt, Georgetown, Loyola, Simmons, and Baylor. I really wanted a more well-known program. I called several recruiters in my area and they all said to save my money because they never ask where one has graduated from. They just want to know you are certified.

I still have moments I wish I had gone with a big name. But that's just pride. I believe online school requires dedication to get the most out of it, so I do really sink myself in to the coursework.

Feel free to ask whatever questions you have.

Linda

I know I'm late to the conversation, but I am due to graduate Herzing in December (God willing). I'm taking a double clinical now (peds and women's) and working full time. It was very challenging getting preceptors - and I'm well connected in my market. Many students from other programs I've met that had contracts with preceptors were told that their rotations were suddenly closed to students until further notice (because of Covid). This will likely be a problem for many FNP programs, especially if we get a second wave of shutdowns/infections.

The instructors have been amazing at Herzing - and I can't say enough about their Director Dr. Julie Penick. She is amazing. It is a lot of work, but doable. I try to do all my readings, I go a little nuts in discussions, but generally I'm able to stay on top of the work. Quizzes are challenging but fair. If I had to do it again I would not take two clinical courses at once. Since I'm done with didactic classes, this was the best choice to graduate in December, but I'm in week 9 of 15 and I'm exhausted.

I believe you can make any of these online programs work for you, but the quality of your clinical experiences (I.e. preceptor) and the culture of the program should be your priority concern. Because of Dr. Penick's leadership, Herzing is student focused - if she leaves all bets are off. I hope this viewpoint helps.
