Help! What should I do? Leave nursing altogether?

Published

I'm an Lpn who took more than a year off after having my first child. I was 'lucky' enough to get a job in a local hospital. I work nights only Pt and the staffing is awful. I get a float RN who hates my unit and is always lost or confused. Day shift treats me like dirt blatantly talking about me and what I haven't done. If I don't hand over the computer instantly they're mad. If I don't finish my med pass they're mad. They speak of me as if I'm not even present. It's becoming so stressful it's not even worth it anymore. The lack of sleep and support is taking years off of my life. I do what I can and what's best for my Patients. And it's never good enough. I'm tired of being seen and stupid or worthless when I'm honestly trying h best. What should I do? Leave nursing altogether? My other options are a nursing home which is basically what I'm doing I run all night and it's never good enough. Anyone else feel this way and what did you do? Please help I'm on the brink of a breakdown and dread going into work

Perhaps seek a nursing position with a lower acuity level in home health, private duty, group home for the developmentally disabled, methadone clinic, or a county jail.

Don't leave nursing, leave the job that you hate and a team that is not supportive. All the best!

There are other avenues. Start exploring them. A few good ones were named above. I would add in MD offices, blood banks, employee health at major corporations, etc.

Office nursing is great and they love LPN's.

Find a new job, not a new career.
