i found that the best way to do well in psych and all my courses is to take good notes turn in assignments, READ THE TEXT and limit yourself to you online time and posting to message boards, when I did my pre reqs i spent 3 hours studying for each credit hour, so if your class is 3 cr hours then I spent 9 hour s a week studying for class prepping etc so i you take 4 classes you can spend up to 36 hours a week studying. I did not post on message boards 5 and 6 times a day i never bothered with them until the weekend, you need to be very disciplined

Very disiplined 36 hours a week is loke a job lol

Well, college is like a job....except when you go home you get to do some more work

Expecting to read the whole text book is reasonable. So is taking notes from the text book and making flashcards and then spending more time with all of them. Sometimes all that isn't necessary depending on your teacher and how well you know the subject to begin with but it is still a reasonable expectation.

I agree that three hours of study per credit hour is a good rule of thumb. It is also what both colleges I've been to officially recommend as a minimum. More if you are a slow reader. Personally, I've found many classes that I can do okay in without that much work.... but when I operated on that mindset my gpa hovered around a 3.0. Even when I got a 4.0 in a particular class, I didn't have the foundation for the classes that built on that class. Also, I didn't have the study skills for the classes that needed the whole three hours or more. I'm now digging myself out of the mess I made then.

I see i guess ill have to stick with 36 hours a week its going to be rough

Don't you think you have way too many threads going on simultaneously in this forum? Why don't you take a break from allnurses for a while and start concentrating on your classes, so you don't get freaked out. Form study groups too and start communicating with people in your class.

haha i will in 4 days after wensday you wont see me here for a long time

We had to read the whole textbook, but our textbook was specially made for our class. They took out specific sections of a larger book and formed our book.

how many pages wasyour text book and how many chapters did you read a night. might i add how many pages was a chapter in your book

So far in my pre-reqs, with the exception of my English and oral com. classes, we read the entire book. It was common to read about 5-6 chapters (sometimes more, sometimes less) a week for one class.

I'm not sure if the length of semesters play a role in how much work you would do for one class in a week--our semesters are 10 weeks and I'm pleasantly surprised at the amount of information our brains are capable of retaining in such a short amount of time. So don't panic, you can do this; you're extremely capable.

For Psych 1, I had assignments due every other day and 1 test per week(online class). Our schedule was usually 1 - 2 chapters per week.

For Pscyh 2, I never read the chapters. LOL. My teacher had powerpoints with lecture notes, that's what I read. We had take home tests.

280 pages - 9 Modules (chapters)
