what can you suggest about how a nurse can handle an angry family of a pt who has died from injuries sustained froma a fall in the hospital?

That's how my grandmother died. She was in for emphysema and got up one night, tripped, fell, hit her head, subdural hematoma, and died a week later.
We were shocked, you always hear about this happening but could never imagine it happening to your family.
If the family is angry, let them vent. Don't say anything defensive or in poor taste. Let patient relations or a nursing supervisor come up and speak with them. Ask them if they want to speak with a religious affiliate. If they are getting hostile, call security.
And the main thing is no laughing faces!
