Help~Saunders' review book

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I just graduated 2 weeks ago at May 16. I didn't study Nclex at all during school time. I just calm down to started last week.

Could any nursing friend tell me how you schedule to use Saunder book? I am reading it in very slow speed coz I can get all them into my head if I go through more contents. I feel that my head is very full and can't add in any more. Is there any content I can skip? Anybody knows which part is not that important or less proportion in Nclex?

I enrolled Kaplan complete course which starts at the first week of June. I feel that I need a systematic and detail review of nursing contents like Saunders book coz I went through the nursing school in one year accelerated program and I am not confident. But on the other side, it seems no way to be done with this book within one month?

Thanks for your experience~

If you have just graduated then your knowledge should be OK so I would just concentrate on doing the quizzes in the book and if you get less than 75% then read that chapter otherwise I would just concentrate on answering questions and reading the rationale

thx so much. I will try it. I always feel that I know less than others and forgot most of them even though I just graduated coz I stuied one year to switch from bio major to nursing. Not confidence always~

Just thought I would respond as well. I don't have any suggestions on how to get through that Saunders book, trying to figure out that schedule myself. However I will say I LOVE the Saunders book due to the illustrations and outline and such. Sometimes I think they go a little too in-depth sometimes, but thats ok. I think the Saunder's book is much better than the Mosby book, although I think Mosby has a better question bank. If you come up with a study strategy I would love to hear it.

Good Luck on your boards

Saunders 4th edition? It comes with a CD that has a pre-test. Take that and it will you identify your strengths and weaknesses. It will also give you a 6 week (5 days per week) outline of which chapters to study. It covers the entire book so if you do great in certain areas, you can skip (or skim if you prefer) those chapters.

oh, thx so much! It is very helpful here!

most of friends seem to recommend me practice questions instead of reviewing chapter by chapter. practicing question and checking back review book sound like a plan??? I am confusing about how deep I should study for Nclex.

Thx so much for your information. It is very helpful here. How deep I should know for Nclex? Sometimes, I checked why beyond what mentioned in saunders but it is occupying my time. I am reviewing saunders extremely slow.

I just started on saunders today and all I'm doing are the questions from back of each chapter..When I feel like I'm not confident with one of the questions, I read more about the topic or when I'm not scoring well enough, I re-do the questions again until the rationals really stick into my head!! Once I finish with one chapter, I do the cd questions. For example: Today I did cardiovascular questions from the book and covered cardio part on cd only!!

One more thing, I write down the most important diseases on a paper pertaining to the chapter I did my questions on only and study them. Example: Heart failure, pulmonary edema, pulmonary embolism etc.

I used Saunders to study for NCLEX-RN. I only did questions which were application and analysis which is what NCLEX will duplicate. I passed the first time with 75 questions and thought the test was fairly easy. Hope this helps.
