I got a letter after passing the NCLEX saying I was prohibited from practicing because of a retail theft 10 years ago. I am panicking. The document asks me to explain in my own words what happened and also asks me to provide court documents. I never went to court, was never charged/prosecuted and it's asking me for documents I simply do not have the because I was never in court. I was arrested and I was at the police station until my parents picked me up because I was a minor. Help!

Wow, that must have been a huge disappointment! I would start by telling them exactly what you've just told us. Good luck. Oh, one more thing, this post is a little confusing. Were you actually jailed or just had to wait at the police station until your parents arrived?

Get a disposition/arrest record from the court, send it in with your written explanation.

Contact a lawyer who specializes in this type of law immediately- before sending a response to the BON.
Hi I am sorry I wrote this in a panic while on the phone with police. I was not jailed. I was sitting in the police department in a little room next to a police officer writing my report and stayed there until my parents arrived.
This is a good suggestion although the disposition/arrest record will be coming from the police department and not from the court even though the document asks for something sealed from the circuit court.

Reading your post has given me hope. THANK YOU!! Can you tell me a little about what you wrote in the letter? I don't want to write too much or not enough.
