HELP! "Prohibited from Practice" letter IL

Published

I got a letter after passing the NCLEX saying I was prohibited from practicing because of a retail theft 10 years ago. I am panicking. The document asks me to explain in my own words what happened and also asks me to provide court documents. I never went to court, was never charged/prosecuted and it's asking me for documents I simply do not have the because I was never in court. I was arrested and I was at the police station until my parents picked me up because I was a minor. Help!

I passed my NCLEX ON 6/14. I sent in all the paperwork they requested for a conviction from 2007. I'm a nervous wreck waiting for a response. Do you know how long it usually takes for the board to review and make a decision?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

For me it was within two weeks time so I am hoping you heard and have great news!

abouttimeRN - I am having the same issue right now. I was also arrested for shoplifting as a minor almost 10 years ago and I got the same letter about prohibited from practicing.

The letter asks for court documents, but I went to the court house and they have NOTHING on file. Their search kept coming up "no records found." They printed this out for me with the seal, but I'm wondering if I need to get the arrest record from the police dept too. The police station is over 2 hours away so it's no easy task. What exactly did you send in? Also, how long did it take for your license to post after sending it in?

I have the exact same situation, no court just "arrested" as a minor until parents arrived, did they accept the form from the police department or what did you mail besides the statement??

Thank you!!

axm- just send in the court papers. Even if nothing comes up on you, have the court house print off a background check from the year in question and stamp it with the seal. I got my license the other day and I did not need anything from the police dept.

Thanks i mailed just the court papers and a statement explaining everything, i mailed to the same PO box i had mailed my 50 check to initially is that the correct address??

And how long did your license take to post?

Thanks again!

Have you heard anything Axm? I mailed my statement and documents last week, and have called the board several times and have given a few different answers - just now I was told the documents were just transferred to a liason's desk and I can expect my license in 3-8 weeks!!! This arrest was 9 years ago and did not result in a conviction - it was dismissed before arraignment. I accepted a position last month and already had to move my start date, and may have to again if I don't get my license before the 19th. :(

Glade to hear you got the licence. Can you tell us oow long did it take you from your license to post from day you sent the required documents??
