  1. I'm kind of panicking right now. I work 12 hour night shifts at a LTC facility. I worked last night and this afternoon I had a voicemail from the department of public health stating that they are currently at my work place and to call them back. My shift ends at 7a and they called me a little after noon. I have no idea what this could be about, but I'm scared that I may be in trouble because why else would they call me at home? Has anyone had public health call them? What would they even call about? I'm assuming they handle stuff like infection control. I know they do a lot in regards to the kitchen/food service, but what do they when it comes to the nursing staff? A few weeks ago I had to report a nurse for stealing narcotics who ultimately got fired. When I talked with the administrator she did mention that this was a health code violation. Could this possibly be about that? I would assume they would have contacted me much sooner if it was.
  2. I'm in IL and it wasn't until AFTER I passed my NCLEX that I got a letter from the BON asking about a juvenile arrest that I did not disclosed. Not sure if it's handled differently if you disclose the information in the first place, or how it works in Florida. If the FBON said you are fine, you probably are! Good luck!
  3. I am in IL and my situation is a little different. I had an arrest from when I was 16 that I did not report because I didn't know I needed to. I got an email after passing the NCLEX that I need to submit documents. I went to the court house and they couldn't find anything. I had them print off a background check (which just said "no records found"), stamped it with the seal, and turned it in with a letter explaining what happened and why I didn't tell them about it the first time. I received my license 5 business days later. I had a friend who was wrongfully arrested at 14. The charges were dropped but it still showed up on the background check. She also got an email asking her to explain this situation. She did the same thing as me and got her license a few days later. I don't know what the Texas BON wants you to report, but from my experience I would report it. Get any documents from the court house, write a letter explaining what happened, and send it in with your application. From what I learned, if you were fingerprinted for any reason, no matter what the outcome was, the BON will see it. At least in IL. You can always call your BON and ask. You don't have to give them your name or any info. Good luck!
  4. axm- just send in the court papers. Even if nothing comes up on you, have the court house print off a background check from the year in question and stamp it with the seal. I got my license the other day and I did not need anything from the police dept.
  5. Axm611291 - I know it is very disheartening to hear that after all your hard work, but the process wasn't too difficult for me. I sent in court documents (which was just a background check saying "no records found" stamped with the seal) along with a letter and got my license just a few days later. I did not have to get anything expunged. The courthouse couldn't even find anything on me.. Kind of hard to expunge a "record" that the court can't find. Good luck with everything!!
  6. I am in IL. I know it's a little different here, but I had a similar situation. I was arrested for shoplifting when I was 16 years old. I was brought to the police station, fingerprinted, my parents had to come pick me up, and I had to pay some fines. Never had an issue after that. I was told this record would get sealed at 18. I never had it come up on a fingerprint background check for work or school. But about two weeks after I passed the NCLEX, I received an email asking me to explained what happened on this day and to get certified court documents with the official seal. I went to the courthouse and they couldn't find ANYTHING on me. They searched my juvenile records and everything. Doesn't make sense to me that the court house couldn't find anything on me but apparently the IL BON could. The courthouse printed out a background check for me that said "no records found," and stamped it with the court seal. Sent this in with a letter explaining what happened. About 5 business days later I received my license. So yeah, even though it was a juvenile arrest that the court house had no record of, I still had to explain myself to the BON. However, I've heard IL is more strict with this kind of stuff than other BONs. I would call your state BON and ask. I was kind of embarrassed to call but the person on the phone was very helpful. I didn't give her my name or any specific information so it's not like the BON will link it to your application.
  7. Update: I got my license!! All I had to do was go to the courthouse, get the documents (for me, it was just a background check that said "no records found") w/ the official court seal. I also had to write a letter explaining what happened. I mailed these things Tuesday evening, the BON got it Thursday, and the following Wednesday my license posted! Just a word of advice, if you're dealing with the Illinois BON, disclose ALL arrests, juvenile or not. Don't let the words "conviction" throw you off. If you were arrested and fingerprinted, no matter how long ago, it will show up for the IL BON!! I've never had this issue come up before even with fingerprint checks for work and school. I didn't have anything show up on my record at the court house either, yet I still had to explain myself.
  8. abouttimeRN - I am having the same issue right now. I was also arrested for shoplifting as a minor almost 10 years ago and I got the same letter about prohibited from practicing. The letter asks for court documents, but I went to the court house and they have NOTHING on file. Their search kept coming up "no records found." They printed this out for me with the seal, but I'm wondering if I need to get the arrest record from the police dept too. The police station is over 2 hours away so it's no easy task. What exactly did you send in? Also, how long did it take for your license to post after sending it in?
  9. Almost 10 years ago when I was 16, I was arrested for shoplifting. I was taken to a police station, fingerprinted, released to my parents, where I later had to pay fines. Never went to court. Never had any other consequences. I also never have had this show up (or at least no employer or school has ever brought it up to me) on any background check, even fingerprint background checks on both a state and FBI level. When applying for my LPN license in Illinois, there was a question about having any convictions. I checked "no." After passing the NCLEX, I received paperwork in the mail and sent that in w/ the $50 requested. I sent this out on a Monday, and one week later on the following Monday I received an email saying that I am prohibiting from practicing at this time because I have a deficiency. The email asked me to describe in detail what happened on a specific date and to get certified court documents w/ the official court seal. I went to the courthouse the next day, they looked up my record (including my juvenile record) and they couldn't find ANYTHING. Strange to me that the courthouse can't find anything on me, but apparently the BON can.. and seem to be holding it against me! I had the courthouse print out a background check for the year in question w/ the "no records found" result, and stamped it with the official seal. I also wrote a letter explaining everything. I mailed this all that same day (Tuesday). It is now Friday, (only 3 days from when I sent the letter) but I'm wondering how long it will take for my license to post. I doubt they will deny my license for a "record" that even the courthouse can't find, but I'm sure it'll delay my license Has anyone been in this position before? How long did it take to get your license? I have a job waiting on my license to post so this whole process is stressing me out! On another note, two of my classmates who didn't have any deficiencies had their license posted online 5 days after sending in the money and paperwork which is crazy to me because I'm sure it took at least a few of those 5 days in the mail. Not going to lie, I'm a little jealous
