hI I juz graduated BSN from the philippines.. I took the boards last december2 and now I want to focus on applying for NCLEX...
I have a few questions...( I chose California as my state..because I want to also take my exams there and since most of my relatives are from there-Anyweiz, how long does it usually take for processing until I could receive the letter of my eligibility for the exam?)
1. How many fingerprint cards do I need? (Ive seen from browsing the CaBON that theyre asking for the quantity?) Will they be sending it thru snail mail or thru email then Ill just print it? How long do they usually take to arrive?
2. I understood upon reading some of the forums that I just have to leave the SSN blank since im a foreign grad..is dat true? or I ll still have to put foreign grad?
3. Ive dowloaded the forms from the site..what is the best way I could send it thru them? is it by FEDEX? and how about the payment options? can I pay via VISA credit card?
Im really at a lost..I hope someone could take the time answering my questions.plz plz plz..thank you in advance :)

hi! you only need one finger print card... if you've ordered from their site, it will be mailed to you in 2 weeks or so... (it can't be downloaded from the site) if you're from manila, you'll have to be finger printed in NBI, Sta cruz... they'll charge you P20/finger print card. you might want to have two copies in case something goes wrong with the other f-card.
keep SSN - blank. only write info on blanks with x-mark... if such doesn't apply to you... just leave it blank. They would know you're foreign graduate since there is a part in the application where you'll be asked where you graduated, so you need not specify that you're a "foreign graduate".
you may send in your applcation through snail mail... or if you have the money to send it through LBC, FEDEX or DHL... you may do so... provided that you use their overnight address: Board of Registered Nursing
1625 North Market Blvd,
Suite N217
Sacramento, CA 95834
Phone: (916) 322-3350
yep.. include their phone number... air freight won't accept PO BOX address.
As for the payment, you may either use US check or money order which you may ask from local banks. Just ask how it is done from your local bank. In case you have relatives in US, you may ask their help to pay for your application, that is slip in their US checks for your payment. If you prefer to ask for their help, then send in your applciation to them and let them mail the complete application to BON. Incomplete applications will not be entertained.
It may take more or less three months ... before you receive the eligibility letter. As soon as send in your application, start your review :-)
Hope this helps :-) Good luck!

hi!!! same situation.. im planning to leave (tourist visa) for l.a. on march of next year.. can i apply nclex from there? if i can.. will the processing be faster? tnx for any info...
hi torque... have you started your application with CA BON? It would be best that you have applied for CA BON ( takes three months if you're from outside US) and have your eligibility letter prior to pursuing your plan. You may schedule to take your exam in US for as long as you have your eligibility letter and a valid visa. PM me at grace_0310 if you have your yahoo... :-)

worst possible thing that you can do.
california takes on average four to six months to give approval for you to even sit for the exam, and then another few weeks of waiting for results after you take the exam, since you do not have a ssn#. it will put you over the six months that your visa is valid for to stay in the us at one time, plus the bigger one: retrogression is in effect and will be for some time. not one thing can be done for you during this time.
plus, it is actually illegal per us immigration to come to the us for the sole purpose of staying. highly recommend that you rethink your plans.
and to clear up some confusion that i see in the above posts on this thread:
you do not apply for the nclex exam, it is only one step in the licensing process. you wil be applying for licensure as an rn to a particular state............you need permission from the state board of nursing to be able to sit for the exam.
please take the time to go to the international forum and read the stickies at the top of that forum since all of you are foreign. very different steps for foreign applicants from american applicants. plus many other steps that need to be done.

hi grace_0310..you mentioned something about the payment options for the NCLEX application. i have a realtive at Sn Jose and she's willing to pay the fees for me..So i just have to send her my application and let her mail it to BON with the money order or check? Is that allowed by BON? i just want to know because my friend who took and passed NCLEX warned me that the application forms regarding NCLEX should come from the applicant himself and from the school. please tell if its true..and how about the address? If my application will be mailed from San jose does that mean that letters from BOn will be sent to my aunt in San Jose instead of my address here in the philiipines? your answers will be highly appreciated..:paw:
i still have one question..What type of visa will i be required of if i am going to take the NCLEX in California or in Hongkong? please help me..
The US requires a tourist visa to come to the US, and they do not grant them based on the need to take the NCLEX exam.
HK does not require a visa, that is why most select that.
But again, why would someone want to wait four to six months before they even get permission to sit for the exam, and have to wait one month to get the results, when it is much easier to just endorse to CA and then you woudl have your results in just 48 hours or so, depending on the state.
And what if you get a better offer to go to another state? You will be unable to endorse since you will not have an actual license until you arrive in the US ready to work and can give the BRN a SSN#............you will only have a piece of paper that states that you passed the exam, but will not be considered a licensed nurse in the US.
Highly recommend that you take the time to so some reading on the International Forum before you do anything.
