Help with Pre-requisites

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello to all of you.

I am currently a student at UC Merced and I was wondering about pre-requisites. For most schools i see you need your general chemistry courses and bio and so on, but recently i am noticing that a lot of the courses that i plan on taking are split into two classes based on a semester period. For example my chemistry course is made up of 2 semesters to cover the extensive material as well as my biology class. Would i be better off taking these courses at a community college and just dropping out of UC Merced? Im just afraid that i wont do so well on the courses and not have a high enough GPA for nursing schools.

Thank you all in advance.

I've never understood the logic of paying university tuition for prereqs. I would say to do them at the community college then apply to nursing programs. Some schools do offer an advantage to "native" students, but few of these exist anymore.

I have a degree from a four year college, but I am not beat to take my prereqs paying four college prices. I'm going to my local community college to complete my courses. Saves you money, usually smaller classes and more opportunities to get help.

Having done a four-year degree all at a university, and now going back to get pre-reqs for nursing with the plan to transfer, I really wish I'd done CC the first time around. The classes are smaller and the instructors more approachable. The tuition is about 1/3 what it would cost for the same classes at the university.

That being said, there are advantages to doing everything at one school, if you are able to afford to do so. (e.g. Consistent peer-group for 4 years, access to research/better libraries).
