In your studies, make sure you understand the rationale behind the incorrect answers as much as you do the correct answers. In other words, you need to know WHY an answer is wrong because it just may be a test question....same is with the right answer. Knowing what the answer is or isn't simply is not enough. You must be able to explain the 'why'.

Thanks for replying. Yes I read rationales and typed what I didn't understand into questions I literally typed 100 pages of notes. I don't know where to start now. I've used so many sources. Maybe my study methods just suck. When I got my report I did worse than the first time. I didn't get one below. This time I got 2 below the rest near and 1 above. Safety was the only category I was above on. I did better with safety this time than the last time. Idk I'm in a mess rn

Hi Hopeless,

You should change your name to Hopeful because you are on the right track with asking questions. We can only suggest from experience without knowing the details about your study schedule. Did you study everyday and make time to review not just do questions? Also, are you familiar with understanding nursing concepts (ADPIE, ABC, safety, pharmacology, fundamentals) and A&P?

You can do a lot of questions and use a lot of resources but if you do not understand the rationales s you should then it will not benefit you. Find a tutor or mentor to help if you can to guide you as well :)

There is no short cut with NCLEX and preparation is key. This is for your future :)

if I was helping you study, I would ask you a question, you'd give an answer, then I'd ask you "why is that". When I studied, I only used one resource. I answered each question with the my chosen letter (a,b,c, or d), followed by, "because........", or in regards to the SATA, this one does not fit because......

This is how I prepared for the nclex.

Sometimes, you have to go directly for the answers that you KNOW are incorrect and eliminate those as options, while still being sure to ask yourself "why not this one". You just HAVE to constantly ask why or why not. That is a must.

Yes im very familiar with nursing concepts. What I did to review was question banks. All the ones I got wrong I'd type into questions. I know not to just do the questions but I did go over rationales mainly uworld and nclex mastery. I did everything I could for this test yet I still bombed.

Thank you!! Yes elimination when I took the test I already know which 2 to eliminate but it's always those 2 I'm stuck with. I second guess like on the last question I was stuck between A and C I clicked A but after a few seconds I changed it to C. After the test I looked up that question the answer was A. It is so hard to start again I really hope I pass the third time it'll be my last passing or failing

Right there is your problem! WHY did you change your answer? (Not a question for you to answer now, but during the test). Unless you had a VERY GOOD reason, one better than your initial reason for your first choice, you should leave them as are.

Now for a little respectful tough love. You actually don't understand concepts because if you did, #1, you wouldn't be changing your answers; and #2, you would have passed your exam. Obviously your understanding of what you believe yourself to know is enough off the market to cause a failure. Go back and try to get a different understanding from the one you have.

So many students come here for help and no matter what we say, the response is "I know this; I know that", when the reality of the exam says otherwise. Look not to your own understanding. Good luck on your next attempt.

I agree with BSNbeDONE.

The way to solve a nclex questions requires having prior knowledge. What is consider prior knowledge?

The prerequisites( basic understanding of the human body A&P, chemistry, biology, physics) Do you know where in the body has high pressure and low pressure? That is physics...do you know which organs are vascular and avascular? do you know the functions of each organ system and how they work together? do you know the basic understanding of negative feedback concept in the human body? These details matter

2. Also prior knowledge in fundamentals and adpie. when to assess when to implement. , medication management side effects, adv effects when to give a medication, when to hold a medication, with food, w/o food? etc

3. prior knowledge in prioritization and delegation (management care) again studying abc's cna vs. lvn ..hippa , safety

as you can see there are prior knowledge and understanding of major concepts. i hope this helps

this may seem like way to much to study for nclex exam but truthfully you will be on your way when working on the unit. passing the nclex is one thing...working on the floor unit is another.

Aw! sorry to hear that, I know the feeling.
