Help with OB and Peds

Hi, I am starting Ob and Peds in about 2 months. At my school the class is fast paced and in 9 weeks. Anyone have any advice or any kind of books I can use to help me pass the class? Lot's of people fail that class at my school. :/

I took OB last semester and passed with an A.

Peds starts in 3 weeks for me. I use the Lippincott NCLEX-R. To study from as well as NCLEX-QB on my iPad and Lippincott's apps for subjects on the iPad. These are used w class powerpoints and textbooks. This works for me. Best wishes!

My boyfriend is in the program with me- we took OB an Peds last semester; all I can say i utilize the women in your group! Ask to study with them- chances are they are much more interested in learning the content and will help to drill the info into your head. It's hard to study something you have little interest in- so study with people who are enthusiastic about it.

I loved this book! It fits in your pocket, so perfect for clinicals! My OB professor is one of the authors. She is absolutely brilliant. It breaks everything down simply, and it includes pictures, charts, etc. There are tabs for gyne basics, ante/intra/post partum, newborn care, peds basic, peds assessment, and peds acute.

Quite frankly, I made a C in it and was glad to get it. A's in everything else. I shouldn't admit this I suppose, but I didn't crack the book all semester. I remember sitting by the only other male in class, also a career changer with a wife and kids, and him looking over and saying, "Man, I don't even want to know about this." I started laughing because I'd said the same thing to a variety of people. I read the slides as much as my sanity would let me while they flashed across the screen and spent most of the time hoping I'd never have to use any of it. Years later, I haven't, lol. I don't take pediatric medical patients at work and assign gyneo patients to female staff members because I'm neither qualified nor comfortable enough to treat them. Of course, this doesn't mean I'd rather treat member problems because that's no fun either, but there's a give and take. Yes, I'm in a psych NP program that will allow me to treat all ages and both genders, and I'm ok with that because talking is what we mostly do.

I'm not going to lie, that semester was grueling for me. Personally, I think peds is difficult just content-wise. The clinical aspect was fine. OB clinical wasn't too bad either, but I just passed with a C. I don't really understand why, but it was extremely challenging. I don't know if I have any suggestions... I ended up taking a NICU elective and I really thrived there. I guess it's just the pre/perinatal aspect that just never clicked with me. Good luck though!

I as a male did excellent in Peds and OB, infact I had the single highest ATI test scores in my class. Sad that one guy did best out of 52 students, about 80% of which are females. I used ATI and my class textbooks. study, its not easy.

But i also had the added benefit of working with children as an Emergency Medical Technician and delivering babies in the field over the past years.
