Ok So I am having a hard time formulating a Nursing diagnosis for a teaching project.
I am currently in OB and have to do a teaching project to postpartem patients. I chose the topic of the Tdap vaccine to all new mothers since the outbreak of this year.
I need to formulate a nursing diagnosis and 2 learning objectives.
For the nursing diagnosis I was thinking along the lines of Knowledge deficit? or could you even use risk for infection?
If you guys could help me with a nudge in the right direction, I would so greatly appreciate it!!!! thanks!

I'm not a fan of vaccines so I'm of no help with your idea so far. Is the teaching project regarding the new mom or the new baby?
new mom
Ok....how about teaching breastfeeding, Lord knows how new moms need help there and you could even use the deficient knowledge or readiness for enhanced knowledge about breastfeeding. Or new mom=sleep deprivation, lol....that's a nursing diagnosis! Good luck!

For Tdap vaccine & new moms, I think Knowledge Deficit is a great dx choice. Perhaps one of the learning objectives could be the second item you mentioned: Educating them on how getting the Tdap vaccine can decrease their risk for infection from those illnesses. You could provided with adequate education/resources to be able to understand the risks/benefits of the vaccine so they can make an informed decision. Maybe they could repeat back to you the risks/benefits accurately after you educate them? That would help to ensure accomplishment of the learning objective. Just an idea. I love knowledge deficit dx, because with patient education, the possibilities are endless and there are so many ways to teach/communicate with the patient depending on their individual needs. Good luck, you will do great!! :)
