Hello, everyone,
I am scared out of my mind and need help fast.
I found out, by trying to complete pre-reqs that my transcripts will not be
accepted because the school that I took some courses from was a 'diploma
mill.' I am outraged and hurt because I had No idea and now I don't know
what to do; I am sure I won't be able to get in for the spring and now I'm
thinking I'm going to have to take several more courses before I can even
think about trying to apply.
What should I do? Can I be kept out of school in Texas because I can't
obtain an 'Official' transcript?
How in the world could something like this happen to me?
Thanks for all responses; this is very urgent.

Unfortunately this can happen. My school wouldn't accept any online courses whereas other schools would. It's crucial to check and verify that your school's courses are not just accredited but acceptable to your nursing school.
Could you possibly CLEP out of any other these courses?! That means you take and pass a test in different subjects and receive credit for these courses. This seems like it could be a good option for you. You would need to see if your school allows this and I would get it in writing. Many schools do accept it so I would look into this ASAP. Good luck.

in the future it is really important that you get the necessary information for these kinds of things. i was going to go to a local comunity college to do my pre-req's (in new york), and then transfer to a 4 yr school in colorado. iam so glad i talked with an advisor at both schools. turns out, that everything down to the anatomy class that i would have taken didn't satisfy the requirements for out west. talk with an advisor at the school you wish to attend to. get all of the necessary information you need for an easy transfer. good luck to you! this may just be one of those crappy life lessons that we all go through at one time or another!:heartbeat

Anytime you know you will be eventually attending a traditional institution, it's very important that you let them know in advance, and meet with an advisor, of where you plan to take other classes and 99% of the time, they can even tell you if they will accept the classes before you take them.
At the highest risk are for-profit colleges or "junior" colleges that heavily advertise on television.
Best pratice: If the college is not accredited, don't go.
One exception: If it's a NEW college or program at an accredited college (b/c it takes a couple of years before they can even apply for accreditation), and it's not-for-profit, then the chances of you being safe is very, very good.
That's a gamble that I would be willing to take.
That's why I love this forum; so many caring people:)
Unfortunately,hindsight is always 20/20.
When you grow up without ever having anyone encourage you to go to
school, but only encouraging you to 'hurry up and get out of my house,'
you don't have any of the knowledge to make a simple, intelligent decision
to just go and talk to an advisor so, at 18 years old, I was being 'rushed'
out of my mother's home. If only she had mentioned college, just once,
maybe I wouldn't be in this nightmare, but that's a whole 'nother story.
I know Now to check for accrediation, what courses to take, etc.
I am just so concerned that because of this I won't be able to get into
any nursing school in TX so I need to find an online LVN to RN program
that will take me.
I never dreamed that after being an LVN for so long, my career could be
so messed up.
Thank you all for listening and for sharing any information.
Batman24,
I've been thinking about CLepping but it won't help because they will not
give me an actual grade; just 'passing' and I need to be able to compete
with all the millions of other people for those few precious spots in the
school that I want to attend.
I was 'sitting' in on an Algebra class, thanks to a very nice instructor and as
she was lecturing, I looked up and saw at least 3 students with their heads
down on their desks, Sleeping!!! I was furious!! They are taking for
granted what I never had at that age; Opportunity.
