I have been really frustrated in finding a job in NY, I really cant find any.. seriously.. not a single person called for an interview, im really getting frustrated, here's my situation:

I live in NY, i have a BSN, a CA license, and is currently processing my NY license, but CGFNS is taking so long, its been months (from what i heard 6-9 months), i applied since july and i sent everything, but i kept calling my school in the phil. but still no letter from CGFNS.

Nobody wants to hire me cause i have no experience, but I'm really willing to learn and give my time.

i wanted to work while waiting for my license.. as a trainee or an assistant, or if any hospital can recruit me while i process my license.. i would be willing to sign a 4 years contract with them, as long as it gets me a job.. i been on stand by for months now, still cant find a job.. tried everything from indeed, monster, juju, career builder, etc..

This search is making me depress more and more

By NY, do you mean, city? Can you move upstate?

ya, i mean city, but i can move upstate, thats fine, as long as there is an accessible apartment or room near the hospital, but i already tried applying in some areas like Rochester and buffalo.. still no reply

I know its hard out there. I am a new grad and it took me a while to finally land a job. It's not you at all. its this economy that we are dealing with right now. New grads are expensive to train. so the less money hospitals spend the better they think they are. I would keep calling the state board to see the status of your license. You could look into doing some clinics. Also while you wait, have you thought about volunteering at the hospitals you are interested in? that way you start getting to know people and getting your foot in the door so to speak.

i actually tried applying in Syracuse also, last week i sent like 10 applications in hospital in upstate New york , still no reply.. I been applying since July, i could say i actually sent around 200+ applications in NY (even upstate) and CA.. still none of them replied. This is so sad, back in 2000, they would do what ever it takes to get nurses.. when is this going to end

Thanks, i looked at it, but there's none that would hire me, cause they all need experience, so i just submitted my resume for future considerations

Our facility recruits senior students and GN's without experience. The preceptorship you'd receive here is exemplary. I was hired there in February of my senior year; it was very nice knowing that far in advance that I had a job upon graduation.

I'll bet you get a call from HR once they receive your resume...

Much good luck to you!

You need your NY license, bottom line. There is no way around this, there is no hospital that will hold a spot for you until you are licensed for the State of NY. Even the crummy hospitals did away with those 3 and 4 year contracts used to keep staff from fleeing once they saw how horrible the work situation was. Those days are gone gone gone! It's an employers' market now, so if you don't have your paperwork in order then unfortunately you are SOL :(

They also won't hire you as an assistant of any kind because the bad economy isn't just affecting RNs/LPNs. Newly minted CNAs are also having a difficult time finding work. You can try though, something might be better than nothing.

Anyway, good luck. I'm sorry to be a downer, really. But you really do need to get licensed in NY. That is your first step, but you are still going to face a steep uphill battle finding a job in NY.

Agreed, I understand your point, you just giving facts and reality based. Its our economy that is really down, that's what i been feeling. Its just that I already have a CA RN license but CGFNS is taking soooooooooo long just to process my credentials, i kept calling my school in the phil. but no letter from CGFNS , its been 3 months now

There is a hospital in Hudson, NY that hired new grads (at least they did 5 years ago) and gave you a certain amount of time to pass the boards while you worked in training with an RN.
