Help! New BSN grad moving to Houston

Published

I am graduating in April with a BSN and am moving from Michigan to Houston. I am having difficulty finding a job. Does anyone have any advice on how to at least get an interview? I have been applying but haven't gotten any response. I even spoke with a recruiter who told me he couldn't help me, they want experienced nurses only. I am starting to get worried. :( Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Specializes in Tele; Med/Surg; ED.

Try University General in the Med Center. It's a fairly new hospital and very nice. I've worked there as an agency nurse on Tele and in the ICU. I don't know where you'll be living, but North Cypress is hiring as well as Kingwood Hospital. I don't think any of these hospitals would have a problem hiring you.

Specializes in ICU, PACU, Cath Lab.

I am not sure about new grads...all I have heard is that everyone is looking for experienced nurses and putting the new grads on the back burner...keep looking and apply for positions that may not have been your first choice...this seems like an any chance to get your foot in the door time!

Thank you so much everyone!! I appreciate the time you took to write and give me great advice. I am still applying for everything, and appreciate your tips on what hospitals to look at. Thank you, hopefully I'll be a Texas nurse soon!!

How soon are you looking for a job? If you plan on moving to the West side of Houston, there are two new hospitals being built on I10 coming into Katy. One is a Methodist hospital branch and the other is a branch of TX Children's Hospital. Good luck on your search!

also, they hire you as an aide until you are fully trained. that was one of the downsides - so say if your training lasts 3 months on a certain unit, regardless of whether you have a current TX RN license or not, you will be paid a CNA salary during your training. when you start on your own, then your salary goes up to the nursing range

If ya ever in north central Texas, I can get ya a job at Wilson N Jones Hospital here in sherman.
