Help need to make a decision about nursing classes!

Published

Okay...I am thinking about revamping my spring schedule and need advice from people who have already taken some of these classes. I know we have no idea what the combined classes will be like and how much more work they will be in 5 weeks time frame.

I had planned on taking Health Appraisal and Interventions (combined) in the fall with Nursing Excellence. I am wondering if I should change this and go with the following:

1. Take appraisal and interventions this spring which I would have to double up Interventions with Community Health and then Appraisal with Legal and Ethics this spring.

2. Then I would have to double up Excellence with Diversity in the last 5 weeks of Fall semester.

1. and 2. would have me doubling up in 3 different 5 weeks sessions

OR.........

3. Stick with my original plan and do Community by itself, then Ethics/Legal doubled with Diversity in the spring and then combined Appraisal/Intervention with Excellence in the fall.

(this has me only doubling up twice...but the last session is combined class doubled with excellence)

Help.....give me your opinion.

EmJeanRN, did you decide what to do? I am still struggling. I really need to be off in June or I could take 416 then. I don't know if I will have enough time while visiting family to do the work required. The limited course availability makes it tough!

I am leaving my schedule as is. I will be off for entire summer and will take Health Interventions/Assessments with Excellence in the fall. As we already know...that fall class will be the first time Interventions/Assessments will be offered as a combined class. I will just make the best of it.

Good luck...I vote for quality family time for you. Better than being stressed out and finishing a bit early.

Anybody taken 4510 and 4560 concurrently? Is this combo doable? How many papers and to submit on each? Thanks for any input.

4510 is the new combo for Transitions and Legal/Ethics - what was 300 and 335. That is now a 6 credit hour class. They will tell you to figure 4 hours per credit hour for time to devote to a class - 24 hours in this case. I don't know about you, but I have some very retentive qualities that make me devote a lot of time to assignments, discussion boards, etc. Some people are not that way. It is usually best to dive in with one class to see how things work - especially since the switch to semesters from quarters is just starting in the fall. 4510 is a new beast - none of us have taken it.

4560 - Gerontology - lots of work with that one. Read or watch Tuesdays with Morrey - write a paper on it. Inverview and paper on an person older than 70. It kept me busy.

Good luck! We are here to help

Thanks a lot. I am having a hard time registering for other NSRE classes anyway..i keep getting the feedback"requirement not met"!! although it states we may take any classes with 4510 if we have statistics already. I read elsewhere here that there is a lot of writing assignments almost 7 with a lot of reading for 4560? If so maybe i will consider taking it on it's own. I cannot afford poor grades on these classes since i plan on doing a graduate course.

Ok ladies and gents- I finally got my acceptance letter today! Now for the real decision-what classes to take. Apparently 4510 is the first class I have to start with...should I just take it alone? I haven't been in school for 15 years so I'm a little nervous, however I want to get this over with as quick as possible. What do you think?

Hi bushrn75,

Is 4510 the Transistions and Legal/Ethics combined class? Since it is your first class it might be a good idea to only take that class the first 5 weeks. That way you can get a good feel for the time you need to invest in a class and learn how to use the online computer system. Congratulations on getting into the program!

Yes that's the one! I think i will take it alone, there's no point in being unnecessarily stressed! My goal of a 3.8 will be more attainable if low stress.
