Hello Fellow Nurses,
Hoping I can get some advice on a job issue.
I'm a canadian Rn who has finished all my requirements (CGFNS, Illinois licence etc) to work in state of Illinois as a RN.
I flew down for interview at a major downtown hospital in Chicago. During the interview I mentioned to the manager that I would need an official job offer letter, noting I would be obtaining a Tn visa under the nafta agreement. They offered me a job that day and I signed the online contact for the position. The recruiter and manger both knew i would relocating from canada.
A week and half went by and I contacted my recruiter to discuss the drafting of TN letter and she seemed shock. She told me she would have to discuss it with the compliance team before she could proceed. I sent several emails and left voicemails, discussing what would be needed to in the letter and even typed up a draft to try to make it easy on everyone. 9 days went by before she emailed me back ,saying that she would have to see if the floor was able and willing to sponsor me prior to it being brought to the compliance board. I've tried contacting manager in talent acquisition with no response.
It seems like they are trying to withdraw the job on me, Does anyone know if this is common or allowed to happen ?
I've given notice to my former employer, sold my furniture , signed a new lease in chicago all based on this job offer. To say the least this is stressing me out with the lack of communication. I fly out in 2 weeks.
Anyone out there able to help me some advice ??

They definitely have the right to withdraw their offer just as you have the right to change your mind. I hope this works out for you in the end, but it does not look promising.

I will say this is going to be a good lesson to never quit, put in notices on apts before you have the signed and sealed deal. I would see if you can rescind the job notice. If not too late same with apt. Often they will tear up if they have not already carried it thru (date here). furniture you can get at second hand place. As to the lease in apt in Chicago let them know you did not get the right to work in US and they should let you out of lease. This all presuming they have a conscience. It might be sticky as it is in Chicago and I am in TX. and they are somewhat nicer. If apt. states you owe them anything do not pay anything as they spend very little to write that contract.(application fee) I feel for you but never do anything until you have an absolute....If you want to come to the states you might find someone who has already done it and get the particulars on that. Many hospitals have direct hiring so bypass recruiters. They have in house recruiters( I don't know if this is the case here). Sometimes to many fingers in the pie can destroy it before coming out of the oven...

Sponsorship is nigh to impossible to get these days on the fly. Some hospitals do decide to sponsor and bring nurses in, but often this is a decision made after layers of meetings, evaluation of the job market and budget review. With the current state of healthcare in the US, a lot of hospitals are tamping down on expenditures to weather the storm, until the fate of the Affordable Care Act is more firmly addressed. Given that there are plenty of new nurses in the US who are hungry for acute care jobs, from the perspective of the employers there isn't enough of a shortage to warrant the cost of sponsorship. There is no doubt that sponsorship does happen; however, it isn't common these days. It is entirely possible that the individual who interviewed you and offered you the job did not understand the cost associated nor the commitment it represents and has been denied permission from higher-ups to hire you.

Having a TN and being sponsored is 2 different things.I think that sometimes hospitals get that mixed up. There is really no extra cost for them besides the job letter.
I'm on a TN status in Chicago and I had to explain multiple times to them that I was not being sponsored. PM me

What is the current job market? Is there a shortage of local qualified nurses in Chicago? if not, how will the hospital justify the need to hire a Canadian nurse on a TN visa? Considering Trump wants to renegotiate NAFTA and keep jobs for Americans, it would be foolish for American hospitals and Canadian nurses to be oblivious to the current political climate.

Hello, i have a job offer from my agency, but i dont know if its enough. It doesnt have start date and end date. But it mention that i will be working as an RN. And be employed for a minimum of 1 yr. It also has the name of the facility, the rate, and the benefits.
Is it enough? Or some says that we also need to provide application letter for TN status addressing to CPB?
