Help with NALS

Published

Anyone who has every taken or taught the NALS test please help. I have to take mine the end of JUly and I could use some help. What kind of questions or does anyone have a practice test so I can be studing? I am scared to death. Everyone said it is sooo hard and any info, is greatly appreciated. :uhoh21:

I think that you are speaking of NRP, Neonatal Resuscitation Program.

There is quite a bit of info already on this, just do a search on the internet.

You should be given a study guide or a CD to use for review. It definitely is not a rough exam if you work with infants. It just covers things that you should know already. :)

The test is multiple choice and everything is in the book. Just remember your ABCs. :)

We got a book it is called Neonatal Advance LIfe Support (NALS) I dont know if its the same as nrp or not. The problem is I just started June 30 so I dont have that much experience with newborns thats another reason I am nervous.

Thanks Angel

It is the same. Just study the book and use the CD. Good Luck :)

There are practice questions at the end of each chapter. These are basically the same exact questions you'll find on the exam. The CD-ROM that comes with the book is actually wonderful - it covers the same stuff, plus there are live-actiion delivery room videos and animated diagrams that you can click on and watch. Very cool. The CD also has the review questions. You should have a 8 hour certification class the first time you take the test. You go over EVERYTHING, watch a movie, the whole bit. Hands-on demonstrations as well. Very similar to CPR class. Then you take the test at the end. DON'T WORRY. It's not as bad as you think, they will teach you.

A little insight that comes with age and stressing out over things like this until I had a revelation one day-

The hospital has a huge amount of money invested in you. One hospital where I worked quoted it as roughly $20,000 for them to recruit and train a new nurse. You'll pass the exam, even if you have to take it repeatedly, so don't sweat it. Study, but know that if you have gaps in your knowledge, they'll go over the material with you until you know it and can pass the test. Of course my problem is I always want a perfect score and just passing isn't good enough, but that's another problem!

I just completed my NRP. I am re-entering nursing after a 7 year vacation. And it was not a hard thing to do. I would suggest to you, to study the manual, review the questions at the end of the chapters, concentrate on the ABC's, feel comfortable with knowing the medication dosage. Relax and you will do well. It is not a test set up to fail you, only provide you with skills to assist in the baby's transistion.
