Aloha I'm new to this site but here is my story, I was home schooled due to a demanding sport, when that didn't work out at age 19 I worked as a sales associate. I went to college for not even a semester when I met a wonderful guy and ended up having a baby a year later. Now that I'm in my mid 20's and my baby is 2, I really want get a career and become a RN cause my mom is one and I've always admired her and used to watch all sorts of health shows on TV but never thought I had the brains for it. My question is I live in Hawaii on the island of Oahu does anyone know how hard it is to get into a community college nursing program? I accumulated 2 F's during that semester I attended cause I did not drop my classes in time but I'm able to retake anthropology and history to get a new grade so i feel like its impossible to become a RN. I just need words of advice cause I was originally gonna start beauty school in Sept but my passion is nursing cause in the end I would so proud to say that I'm a RN instead of a hairstylist ( not to mention the pay and benefits is amazing compared to hair styling ) Can some help me if I should be a nurse or go to beauty school cause I've been such a mess trying to figure out what I want to do but don't know if I can do it cause I'm scared. Thank you=)

I think if nursing is what you really want to do, then do it. It is hard work though. It takes time and effort, not to mention motivation, to get through pre reqs & nursing school. I say sign up for a biology course (or an anatomy class) to get your feet wet & see if you are really ready to take on this challenge. You have to work hard but it is possible to get through & become a RN!

I agree. Take a microbiology or A & P class to get an idea of your ability to understand the sciences. If you get an A or high B. Then give nursing school a shot. You need a support system in place before starting nursing school to help with childcare and housework. There is another thread going about their husbands stepping up to do housework. https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-student/my-husband-said-831976.html
